Its been three sunrises and Ori had discovered a cave she could shelter in temporarily. It had plenty of clean water but Ori was lacking one thing food. In the there days that she had lived in the small cave, she had caught a hare only to be forced to abandon it shortly after because of a pack of greedy coyotes. Ori dragged herself to the cave that she called home with her tail trailing behind her. She walked over to a puddle that had dipped from the roof of the cave but it just seemed to sharped the gnawing hanger that Ori was trying her best to ignore. She flopped down on the stone floor of the cave and let her exhaustion take over

Ori opened her eyes to a bright shaft of sunlight shining into the opening of the cave. The grey wolf got to her paws and walked into the sunlight. Ori was glad to see that some of the snow was beginning to melt. It was not much but it was a start. Ori figured in about a moon or less the forest would be back to life again. The blue-eyed wolf set down taking in the scents of the forest. She had just shut her eyes and relaxed when she opened them again she saw the butterfly sitting there on her nose.

"Need help?" The voice asked

"Yes, do you know where I can find some food?" Ori asked the voice.

"Follow me," The voice said.

As Ori followed the butterfly through the forest she started to wonder why this butterfly would help her out of all animals. Ori the lone abandoned wolf.

"I know what your thinking and I have an answer."

"I chose you, Ori, because you have a bigger purpose than just to survive. You have a better life ahead of you."

The words of the butterfly just further confused Ori but she just shook her head and padded on through the forest. When they broke the tree line there was a meadow with tall grass, lavender, daisy and some other plant that Ori couldn't name.

"What do you smell Ori?" The butterfly asked the now excited grey wolf. "Rabbit!" Ori yelped with new energy in her voice.

"Go and track it then." The butterfly said as it flew off. Ori scented the rabbit a few fox-lengths ahead. She slowly crept toward the innocent creature when Ori was close enough she lunged and bit down until her pray went limp. With a feeling of satisfaction, Ori picked up the rabbit and headed in the direction of her den.

When the blue-eyed wolf returned to her den she settled down and happily ate her kill. With a full belly and drooping eyes, Ori slipped into a peaceful sleep. When the she-wolf awoke the next morning she saw her winged friend sitting on her nose quietly waiting for her to awake. Ori set up and blinked the sleep from her ice blue eyes.

"Someone is coming to put the spirit back in you." That was was the last thing Ori heard as the butterfly flew out of the sunlit cave.
