Dim sunlight flooded through the cave as Ori blinked open her ice-blue eyes. She sniffed the air. It promised rain was on its way. "Better stock  the fresh-kill  pile before  the first slow."  The wolf-headed out into the forest, but she didn't head to the meadow instead Ori turned her attention to the tress " Time to try for something bigger." She thought to herself. The blue-eyed wolf trotted through the trees trying to pick up the scent of elk. Ori was about to give up when she picked up a faint trail of elk. Peering though of what's left of the undergrowth she saw that the elk had moved several fox-lengths though the trees. But Ori had her eye on something else: A fawn hidden in the bracken a few tail-lengths from where she stood among the trees. The grey wolf was so intent on her prey that she didn't hear the thundering hooves behind her. Ori looked up but all she saw were hooves and then black.

Ori lay dazed on the forest floor, her head spun as she staggered to her paws. She had to get home, she wasn't safe out in the open. Thankfully, the wound on her head had stopped bleeding but, still stung

When Ori got back to the cave she was surprised to see her friend, the butterfly but that wasn't why Ori was surprised, the blue butterfly was sitting on a dead rabbit! The grey wolf ran over to her friend. "where did you find this?" Ori barked "It was here when I came." replied the butterfly. Ori's friend just now seemed to notice her companion's wound. "what has happened to your head?' asked the butterfly. "elk" Ori growled. "You better stick with rabbit" There was amusement in the butterfly's voice. Ori's only reply was a grunt. Without a word, the blue butterfly flew out of the cave. There was still one question brewing in Ori's mind: Who left the rabbit and why? As Ori curled up the first drop of rain fell outside the cave.
