Chapter Seventeen

Almost

(Trigger Warning and Language)

The lanterns on the walls illuminated their figures, the fire was dancing as if playing with the shadows.

"Please let us go." She begged him, as soft sobs escaped her lips. "Please." The little girl croaked. She couldn't even produce tears anymore. It was as if she's ran out of them. Her small hands clasped on the cold iron bars of her cell. The girl craned her neck to look up at the tall figure infront of her. "Oh little Kenna." He rasped. His rancid breath fanned on her face as he crouched down to her height. The man motioned for her to come closer and he whispered softly in her ear.

"If you do...."

"....with me. I'll let you go."

Kenna's eyes were as wide as saucers.
"So how about it?" He grinned, showing his yellow teeth to her. He fished out the keys to their cell from his pocket and dangled it infront of Kenna. The man reached out to caress her cheek but was interuppted by a voice. "Kenna!" Her brother shouted from behind her. Even though it hurt his vocal chords, he still managed to grab her attention. Enri was currently chained to the wall by his feet. Thankfully, he could still reach his sister. He pulled Kenna back towards him, hugging her frail body protectively. Enri glared at the disgusting man infront of him. "Such beautiful sibling love." The tall man in armour tittilated as he let out a lovesick sigh.

"Go to hell dirty old man! Like hell I'll even let you touch her!" Enri yelled at him and threw a small pebble at his face. Fortunately for Enri and rather, unfortunately for the man, it hit his eye. The bastard screamed in pain as he clutched his right eye. "Why you little!!". For a short while, he was in pain but then he began to laugh maniacally. "So that's how you like to play? Then so be it." He told them, as he held out the keys to open the cell. Enri's heart beated faster. It opened with a click of the lock and the man pushed the gate with a long creak.

"Stay away!" Enri yelled at him, as he wrapped his arms around his sister tightly than before. The man crawled towards them on all fours like the digusting old man he is. "Come here little Kenna." He said in a sing song voice, even salivating as he thought about the things he would do to her. Enri didn't know what to do.

A rock came flying towards the old man and it almost hit him on the head. "Hey you! Leave them alone!" A petite girl shouted from the cell across them. Her red eyes were scared but somehow determined. Her brown braided hair was loose and disshevelled. Although she's repeatedly told herself not to interfere, she couldn't hold back any longer. "Why should I b*tch?" He sneered at her. The girl tried to stand strong but the old man noticed how she was trembling.

Then, the old man's face turned into a sadistic smile as if he's got a plan. Enri's surprised his small and shrivelled up peanut-like brain still works.

"After I'm done with little Kenna, you're next." He guffawed and rubbed his hands together. "C'mere." The old man's smile couldn't be wiped off as he managed to grab hold of Kenna's leg and he forcefully pulled her away from her brother. "Brother Enri!" She gasped and tried to hold on to his arms but even though how hard they tried to not let go of each other, she slipped away. "No!" Enri struggled to reach them, but the metal chains kept him bound to the corner. His ankle turned red because of his thrashing but even so, Enri ignored the pain.

"Stop it! You sick bastard!" The girl from the other cell gripped on the metal bars until her knuckles turned white. "Say please." He looked over his shoulder to look at the girl. She swallowed the lump in her throat. Kenna cried kicking and thrashing around. "I'm waiting~" He taunted her, grabbing the hem of Kenna's skirt with his index finger and thumb, lifting it up higher and higher. His other hand held Kenna down by her throat. Enri was helplessly watching his sister, still trying to reach her even though it was hopeless.

The girl could do nothing but grit her teeth and cater to his whims. "Please stop it. Let her go." She bit down hard on her lip as the man smiled satisfyingly.

"Did you think I'd really let her go?" He laughed, his eyes glistened in amusement. Enri thrashed vigorously, his ankle now bruised. He didn't care. "I'll kill you! I swear I'll kill you!" He cussed at him, with tears flowing down his face. It was the only moment he has ever shown anybody that he was crying. Kenna could do nothing but wail. The girl's eyes went wide as she screamed at him, she shook the metal bars of her cell, her palms now red.

"Don't you dare!
Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!"

"Lester." A deep voice came from a corner. Another man came forward from the shadows he was followed by two other knights who were tailing him. He was in a silver armour with a red flowy cape that had the symbol of the King's Regiment at his back. A long sword was strapped to his waist. Same goes for the other two soldiers. The man put on a disgusted face as he inched closer and pulled Lester away from Kenna. Thankfully, he didn't get to do anything to her.

"C-Commander Teron!" Lester's eyes widened in shock. He would be definitely punished for this. The Commander glared at him and shoved him out of the cell. "Please! Please have mercy on me." Lester begged on his knees. "Take him away. Make sure he repents generously." He ordered the two knights. They grabbed Lester by his biceps and dragged him away. Lester screamed for his life while they did so.

The Commander spared one glance at Kenna. She swore that she could see a faint look of guilt on his face but it disappeared as soon as it came. He closed the gates of the cell and fished out his own duplicate keys from his pocket. The Commander locked it and went on his way, his footsteps echoing with every step.

When he was gone, Enri and the girl across from them had snapped back into reality. They were grateful that nothing bad had happened to Kenna.
"Kenna. Is anything still hurting?" Her brother asked, a worried look on his face. "My neck hurts and it's like something is poking at my back." She hiccuped, choking on her tears as she replied and propped herself up into a sitting position. The girl sighed in relief but her heart stopped as soon as she saw something from where Kenna layed.

Bronze keys.
