Rewind Villainess

Chapter Twelve

An important detail.

The group of three hastily made their way back into the Petreuch mansion with just the lantern to light their way. Dried leaves crunched under the weight of their feet as the sounds of the forest came to life -frogs croaking, crickets chirping, and the owls hooting. The cold night breeze whistled among the trees as they trudged on with small fairy lights following them.

"Are you okay? I'm sorry if we have to take the shortcut but I guarantee that it's safer." Eric said without looking back, pushing away the small shrubbery to clear his path. Hopefully no strange creature would jump on them. They are quite abundant here in Czyrek. "We're used to it. The former quests that we got were more harder to deal with." Xion answered monotonously as he continued on moving the branches out of his way. "It's just slightly cold." Lydia added as a puff of smoke came out from her lips as she spoke.

"It's the weather here in Czyrek. If in the morning it's hot and nice to play outside, at night, It's cold and some days it rains." Eric explained, seemingly used to it since he much less doesn't shiver.

"We're here. Just be reminded that my family should not know about any of this. At all." Eric whispered to them as a white mansion came in view. Vines surrounded the building as if snakes were slithering on it. No light came from inside, which means that everyone should be asleep.

"Let's use the backdoor." He instructed, tiptoeing unto the back of the mansion. He looks slightly worried. The two followed, mirroring his actions. They were almost there. But Eric abruptly stopped dead in his tracks. "O-Oh. Honey! You're awake!" Eric exclaimed, raising his hand to rub the nape of his neck. Lydia looked over his shoulder only to see a curly brown-haired woman with honey-coloured eyes. She still appeared to be in a pink night gown, the both of her hands on her hips.

"What time is it?" She asked threateningly while tapping her foot on the concrete floor. A sharp glare was sent towards Eric.

"I just went to fetch our guests!" He replied, laughing akwardly and trying to keep eye contact.

The woman craned her neck to see what was behind him and saw two adolescents, each of them holding luggage. The both stared back. She blinked in surprise. The woman's face turned beet red for a second before saying, "I'm sorry you had to see such a sight."

"It's fine. It's fine. We understand why you're worried." Lydia smiled at her warmly, motioning her right hand side to side. The woman took a deep breath in relief with a hand to her chest. "Well then, please make yourselves at home! My name is Rosetta Petreuch. I am Eric's wife." The woman introduced herself while doing an eloquent curtsy.

"Lydia Hunt."

"Xion."

They introduced themselves as well and bowed their heads. "Such respectable children." Rosetta mumbled under her breath in delight while joining her hands together. She opened the door and invited them in. Lydia and Xion went inside first followed by Rosetta and Eric.

While walking, Lydia couldn't help but overhear the yelp that came from Eric as his wife pinched his arm. She covered her mouth to not let her laugh escape.

After minutes of walking around, with Eric leading the way, they stopped infront of a mahogany door. "This will be Lydia's room and the room next to this one will be Xion's." He gestured to the door on the right with his lantern lighting the area. Xion looked at the door and turned the knob slowly. The door creaked upon opening it. He went inside.  Eric followed him inside after turning the light on.

"Shall we also?"

Lydia nodded and Rosetta opened up the door. She switched the light on, which tremendously brightened the once dark room. Her eyes immediately trailed to the bed in the middle. The wallpaper is dark green in color with white highlights and the fluffy carpet beneath her feet is wine red. She stepped inside and placed her luggage down on the floor. Beside the bed is a nightstand with a candle votive on it. A closet was placed on the leeft side of the room beside a full-body mirror. A vanity is on the right with a chair facing it. It was definitely larger than her old room in the ship.

Who knew this quest would be extravagant?

"Thank you for your benevolence." She said turning back to look at Rosetta and she smiled. "I'm glad you are satisfied with this." She then humbly said while entwining her hands together and holding it infront of her stomach.

"Please have a good night's sleep. I will be leaving." Rosetta lifted the corners of her lips and approached the door. "I'm sorry to trouble you at this hour, Mrs. Petreuch." Just as she was about to leave, Lydia apologized.
"It's fine darling." Rosetta assured her while laughing softly before closing the door behind her with a creak.

Lydia woke herself up with a yawn as she stretched her arms and legs. She sat up and kicked the duvet off of her body. Her clothes from last night were hanging off the chair infront of  the vanity. Last night, Lydia changed into the loose clothing that she wore to sleep to make herself more comfortable. This just further explains that she was a messy person with clothes. It's not the same with her beloved books though.

She walked towards her open luggage groggily and sat down on the carpeted floor. Lydia rummaged through her clothes and necessities that she has packed. Before she could even reach another and toss it to the side, someone knocked on the door. Lydia, with the support of her hand on the floor, boosted herself up.

"Coming!" She exclaimed, unlocking the door. "I'm sorry to bother you so early in the morning but breakfast is already served." Rosetta appeared while smiling.

"And my son is really eager to meet you."

Ah. How could she forget?
Eric Petreuch has a son. Another capture target had appeared.

Her mahogany coloured hair swayed in the wind as she watched over the town that she had grown up in. It was just like it's only a step away. The weight of the backpack on her shoulders were gone.  She tossed the apple up in the air and caught it again with her hand as it got back down. Her light-blue eyes sparkled with determination.

"Maicee Petreuch is back!"
