A/N: Thank you so much for all of you that are reading this story. This is my very first fanfiction for this wonderful series. I appreciate all of you for taking the time to read my work. I definitely try to put the time to write it, edit it and stay true to the characters. I hope that I can do it with justice. If you can vote and comment your likes and critiques, that would make my day. I'm all about constructive criticism. Anything I can do to be a better writer and produce wonderful stories and plots, let me know! Again, thank you and I hope you enjoy.
I stand in the middle of a dimly-lit safe room. Guards have their guns pointed at me and the royal family stand in the back wall of the room. I ignore the stares and focus on the guards with their weapons drawn.
"Relax. I am going to reach for my badge and provide credentials. My name is Scarlet Ryan. I am the Director of Illéan Secret Defense Force. We are here to provide help." I show my badge to prove it and slowly the guards lower their weapons.
"What are you doing? Arrest her! She's a trespasser," a booming, deep voice coming from the back speaks out. King Clarkson steps forward, clearly agitated. I've never liked the man. He is vindictive and sinister man, to say the least. The things he has done to this country and to his own son is unforgivable and just one look at him and the desire to kill him right here, right now grows inside of me.
I silent it before speaking to him. I do my best to control the tone of my voice, "Your Majesty, your palace is destroyed. Your defense, even worse. Would you like me to leave now and leave you open for the rebels to kill? I'd gladly do so."
I start to walk out of the room until I hear him say, "Wait. I apologize. The stress of the situation has gotten the best of me. You may stay."
I turn around and instead of giving a reply I immediately issue my instructions to the three guards assigned to protect the royals. "You three, we're going to need your help accounting for survivors. Make sure they are all taken to the hospital. This is the worse attacks the palace has seen in years. Prepare yourselves. I will take the royals to the Great Hall."
"Just you, miss? Don't you need help from one of us just in case there are still rebels lurking about?" one of the guards ask.
"Don't worry. I am perfectly equipped and trained. There shouldn't be any more threats and if there are I will handle it. Now, the most important thing is to make sure that any remaining survivors are taken care of. Am I clear?" I hear a scoff from behind me as the guards move out to execute my instructions.
"You shouldn't be worrying about survivors. You should be worried about your king and his family," King Clarkson's remarks annoy me.
"One thing you will quickly learn about me, Your Majesty, is I leave no one behind. I care about my people equally. Such cannot be said about you. Forgive me for my forwardness. But if you have no subjects, you have no power. So, you should be concerned about your people."
"You little-," he starts, but I quickly interrupt him.
"I have no regrets about what I said. I am not your subject; therefore, you have no control or power over me. I don't answer to you. Now, we have no time to waste. We must get you out of here and into the Great Hall. You can stay there while we are securing the safety of the palace and your rooms."
I have refused to look directly to any of the royals. I have created a tunnel vision to focus only on King Clarkson and none of the others, but I can feel their stares piercing through my soul. I can't afford to lose focus right now, so I quickly turn around and walk away.
"Let's go," I draw my gun out from behind me and lead them out of the room. As we enter the main corridor, the royals emit a horrified gasp as they absorb their surroundings. Blood stains on the carpets, broken glass and vases litter the floor and bodies lay still in front of them.
