Chapter 4

Just like planned, they both went inside and sat in their seats. Meryl sat back next to Christine and Cher at the end of the table.

"Sorry about that everybody, we just had to fix something. We're fine now" Meryl said

"I hope it was nothing serious" Colin said

"It almost turned serious" Cher said earning a glance from her girlfriend "But I can easily make Meryl forgive me" she teased

"Hey!!" Meryl protested "This time it took a day for me to forgive you, you're a difficult person. It takes a really skilled person to handle you" she smirked, Cher rolled her eyes. Even without understanding, everyone still laugh a little

"Have you finished lengthening yourself?" she said playfully

"Ok yes" Meryl giggled, they left everyone confused with the exchange but the cast decided to ignore it.

They all ordered their food, talked and joked about random subjects for over 30 minutes, the whole time Meryl and Cher were holding hands under the table. Nobody noticed it but they did notice the glances they were giving at each other smiling. Suddenly Meryl's phone vibrated and she looked that Don was calling. Cher looked puzzled

"Excuse me, Don is calling" she got up and walked to the terrace, not before whispering to Cher "I'll be right back" to which Cher nodded

On the terrace

"Hello?" Meryl said

"Hi Meryl, I'm guessing it all went well with Cher since you haven't called" Don said on the other side

"Yes it did, sorry for not calling. We decided to come out, at first to our friends here; we're treating it as a casual thing. Then we'll see what happens when we get back" Meryl explained

"Don't worry; I kind of expected it to go this way" he chuckled "Listen I have to tell you something, sorry for not doing it before. I filed the divorce"

"Already?" Meryl knew it had to happen but she didn't expect it would be so fast

"Yes, we both knew it was going to happen eventually. I actually filed a couple of years ago, all you have to do is sign and within a week you're free to be with Cher" Don said in a low voice

She sighed "I honestly don't know what to say, everything is happening so fast. I'm sorry to have put you through this all these years"

"Don't be, your happiness is reward enough for me. Besides, we have our children together and that is something. I was prepared for this moment since it began"

"Thank you Don. for everything. You are a wonderful person and I hope you find someone special"

"Thanks, now go to Cher" They hung up the phone and Meryl went back inside. Of course it would happen but she was still surprised that he had ready done it. Finally she and Cher could be together without having to hide or any other problems. She didn't say anything, just sat with an expressionless look on her face that made everyone turn to her in concern.

"Meryl is everything alright?" Amanda asked

Meryl looked at the empty plate in front of her, grabbed Cher's hand under the table and said "Don filed the divorce" still showing no emotion in her face. The entire cast gasped "He said that he had done it a couple of years ago. All I have to do is sign when we get back and within a week I'm free"

"I'm sorry you're going through this Meryl" Piers said

She looked at Cher smiling "He knew what he was getting himself into" Cher said "That's why I have another surprise for you" she whispered in Meryl's ear.
