Liam
"She said something about a car and then ran. I don't understand."
"Did you see the car she was talking about?" Jordyn asked me.
"Yeah, the one in the flames, right? It looked like it crashed into the building."
"That car," Jordyn said softly, pausing. "That was her aunt's car. Her parents wer borrowing it." I standther frozen, trying to comprehend what Jordyn had told me. Her words were echoing in my head. Her parents were borrowing it. Jordyn waits for me to figure it out, probably because she knows I'll have more questions.
"Were her parents in that car?" I ask slowly.
"We're pretty sure. They went to the opening ceremonies and I'm guessing it probably just ended."
"Yeah, it did. The lads and I were one of the first ones out. We were just getting to bed when the fire alarm went off."
"Then yes, they were probably still in the car."
"They were in the car." Natalie's voice surprised me and I realized that she'd stopped sobbing, although tears were still streaming down her face.
"I saw them." She said. "That's why I ran. I saw Renny. She was in the backseat. She could have survived, but you stopped me." Her eyes gleamed angrily in the light of the flames.
"Why did you stop me, Liam?" She demanded.
"WHY?!" She shouted. "I could have saved them! Renny was a fan of yours! Why would you let one of your fans die!" She shrieked. Everyone seemed to be watching us now, instead of the fire team.
"I COULD HAVE SAVED THEM!" She screamed and then she collapsed into sobs as the flames began to die down. "I could have saved them." She whispers throught her tears, once the flames have been completley doused.
She'd been scream-crying for the last however long it had been. It feels like ages. She was quieter as she watched the body of her sister being pulled away. I was surprised that there was still something left.
"It takes a long time for people to burn." Natalie says softly. What? I looked around and realized that she was talking to the lads and her team. Someone must have said something.
Natalie was still sitting on the ground. Her arms were wrapped around her knees. She looked so vulnerably. Jordyn and, I think it was Gabby, had their arms around her. She looked up at me.
Natalie
Eventually I'd camled down enough to think straight. I looked up at Liam.
"Liam?"
"Yes, love?" He asked gently, sounding slightly startled.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean what I said."
He smiled at me. "It's fine, love. Grieving people often say things they don't mean, especially if they feel guilty about something."
"Yeah, I feel guilty."
"It's not your fault, love." Harry said suddenly. "You couldn't have done anything to save them."
"But I could have."
"Did you see how fast those flames were moving? If you had gone in there you would have died too. There's nothing you could have done." Niall interjected.
"I guess. Thank you anyway." I smiled at them.
"Girls! There you are! Thank goodness!" Our coach, Fiona, said, running up to us. She was quickly followed by our other coach.
