AEGON

Seeing her with Massey made him seethe. Not because he thought she was interested, not because he felt he owned her, but because Triston Massey was so gods damned good. A better man than he was, so he thought.

And how perfect would they look, side by side? Massey's sunshine yellow hair and blue eyes with her different beautiful shades of brown. They would look perfect, and it made him so angry.

He wanted her, he had her, for a night. Was it over, now that she had found Massey? Or did the promise he made her in the early hours of the morning make her wish to stay with him?

One thing he had learned about the Dornish Princess, was that she would do whatever she damned well pleased. She would not be tied down if she did not wish to. She enjoyed the freedom of having a different partner all of the time, man or woman.

Aegon hated the idea that the one woman he had ever lov— the one woman he had ever cared for so much, may leave or be taken from him. He wanted her all to himself, selfish and impossible as that may have been.

Yet when Lena interrupted them, Sarella seemed relieved. The two glanced up at him, and for a moment he averted his eyes. Then they were gone, off to the side where no one else stood.

Soon after, she was coming toward him.

She slid into the seat beside him, smiling. He had a strange look on his face, one she could not quite place. When he looked at her, it was almost warily.

"You are enjoying your party, I hope." She smoothed out her skirts and looked at him, meeting his eyes. "Or not?"

"I hated seeing you with him," he admitted. He could not lie to her, he never could. "I hated it so much."

"Massey?" She laughed. "Nothing in the entire world could make me want him. He is so dull and stiff. A lord's son. Never liked them much."

"I am a lord's son."

"To be fair, I did not like you much when I met you." She smirked at him and he shook his head at her.

"Is that so?"

"Well, you were a foreign king come to conquer my home so, no, I did not like you. I hated you."

"I know." He shrugged. "And I understand. Of course you hated me. I would have hated me, too."

"But let's not dwell on the past. I would much like to focus on the present."
