5. You Know You Want Me...

Zuri's Point of View:

"So your old man couldn't come with you?" Erica says as we are in the car on our way to Michael's house.

"You're not right for that no my husband couldn't attend he is on a business trip." I say sighing as Thomas left the night before and we weren't on speaking terms like usually now.

"Well, he is old Zuri how come you ended up with him when your best friend would have been better?" Erica says as we slowly approach Michael's block.

"After my father mysteriously died, I was so distraught I didn't know what to do I was only 18 and one week from graduation..." I say as I reminisce about how I walk into the house to find my dad dead.

"They said he died from a heart attack but I know my father was strong as a ox it couldn't have been that anyway my father placed in his will that I will be taken care of by Thomas until my 21st birthday which is when I would have access to my trust fund..." I say as I thought about the lawyer who was so kind to wait until after the funeral to give me the rundown.

"And so, I had an option of living in the house where Thomas would send me weekly checks, but I just didn't want to be alone and not in the house my father died in... So, I left to go live with Thomas he was so nice to let me stay until I went to college..." I say as I had skipped Graduation altogether, I just had to get out of there.

"Damn I am sorry about that, but you didn't have no other family?" Erica asks and I shook my head.

"My grandparents died when I was 9 years old, and my mother died when I was born so it was always just me and my dad oh and Michael and his family but after my dad's death, I just couldn't be there anymore..." I say as thoughts of my dad comes flooding back.

"I understand you know my dad died when I was seven, it's only been Me and my mom, but you didn't explain how you fell for old man Thomas." Erica says laughing as we turn onto Michael's block getting closer, I notice the many cars and people arriving.

"Well during my summer with him before college he really swept me off my feet with gifts and weekend trips he made me forget all about my grief and I fell hard in love back then Thomas was so fine to look at I mean he is not bad now either but he was just so charming he can charm anyone out of their panties..." I say as I smile at my thoughts of Thomas and I summer together.

"Really I didn't know Bengay and Support hose was charming..." Erica says making me cackle as we look for parking further down the street.

"Not nice E stop ganging on my husband but yes he was very charming still is from time to time but anyway by the end of the summer I was Mrs. Thomas Johnson and in college getting my dual degree in Psychology and Photography..." I say as I think of my major and my minor as I was always a over achiever.

"Yes I know Ms. Decorated Accolades but okay I understand but Michael coming back into your life must be a sign of good faith right?" Erica says and I laugh what is with her sudden campaign of Michael?

"Besides Jamal says you two would of been married by now if Thomas ain't scoop you up since Michael is head over heels for you..." Erica says as we walked up to the house and I laughed.

Walking up the walkway I see Michael looking good as ever greeting guest as they walk in, and I hold the Tupperware of fresh baked cookies I made hoping he still has that sweet tooth like I remember.

"Zuri Hey oh Hey Erica Jamal is inside...." Michael says coming down the stairs with his same goofy smile and it makes me want to smile.

"Ooh okay I'll meet you inside..." Erica says skipping along inside I guess someone is getting sprung.
