With everyone still reeling from what happened earlier, we decided it'd be best to discuss this over food. So now we're sitting at a table in Taco Bell with an awkward silence looming over us.
"Sooo...," Lyla breaks the silence, "you're really pregnant huh?"
"Yeah..."
"Myah why do you look so sad," Piper asks, "We're at Taco Bell. You can't be sad at Taco Bell."
"Is it the whole Jenni thing," Karsen asks.
I nod, "I had a feeling she wouldn't be pleased but she could've handled it a little better."
"Wait a minute...are we all just gonna ignore the fact that Piper knew and didn't tell us," Lyla says.
"Oh yeah that's right, Karsen slaps Piper's arm.
"Owwww," Piper whines, "it wasn't my place to tell you."
"We know, we know. We're just playing with you," Karsen says.
"Anyways...how this happen," Lyla asks me and Brenten. We awkwardly side eye each other.
"You don't know how babies work Lyla," Piper says.
"You never learned? Well we will teach you," Karsen says. "When a man and woman..."
"Love each other very much," Piper continues.
"I know how babies work," Lyla stares at Piper and Karsen highly annoyed while they laugh at their joke, "I was asking how these two got together."
"Oh uh...," I can feel my face heating up, "we're not... well... it's complicated."
"Have you guys figured out what you're gonna do yet," Karsen asks.
"No...we haven't talked about it yet," I can feel myself getting irritated with all the questions.
"Hey guys now that we're all graduates, let's talk about what's next for us," Piper changes the subject. Thank God.
"I think I'll take a year off and then go to college," Karsen says.
"Yeah me too," Lyla agrees, "what about you Myah?"
"Well I was going off to college, but I think I'll need a change of plans given my... situation."
"One more thing," Lyla adds, "Are you and Brenten gonna live together or what? Like how is that gonna work?"
I can't take anymore of these pestering questions. I get up and walk towards the door.
"Myah where're you going," Piper asks concerned.
"I need fresh air," I say coldly.
I walk out the door to my car. I don't know if I'm mad mad or pregnant mad, but I know I'm not happy.
About 5 minutes later, I see Brenten walk outside.
"Hey...you okay?"
"Yes...no... I don't know. It's just with all the questions about what I'm gonna do it's just... it's overwhelming.
"Why?"
"Cause I don't even know what I'm gonna do. I don't know... I guess I just don't wanna be alone in this."
"But you're not alone. You have your friends... and you have me."
"Really?"
"Yeah. We're in this together. I got you," he puts his hand on my stomach then looks at me and smiles, "The both of you."
