Chapter 5: Royalty Troubles

_____________________________

Recap:

“My name is Lily” she clarified with a smile.

“I wonder how she will react when she learns that I am not just a guest at the masquerade ball but Prince, soon to be King, Kaine” Kaine thought aloud lying down and putting his hands behind his head.

“Has someone caught his attention?” That not possible! What am I doing wrong? This is going to be so hard but boy am I ready for a challenge. Bring it on Kaine I am ready to win over your heart like it or not” Katherine fumed.

Lily felt her eye twitch as her irritation rose, all night and now early this morning she had been cleaning with the rest of the maids. It appeared that the Princess was in quite a partying mood; it was a week since Prince Kaine had arrived and she had planned yet another ball in his honour, and as proof that there was a bash she was here cleaning. Early in the morning of all times.

'How in the world is this place still unclean after all this cleaning?' she thought with a sigh.

Lily still can’t believe that in last night’s party for the Prince, she had to learn that he, Kaine, was the Prince. ‘Why could he have told me himself?’ thought Lily. She was surprised, shocked and a little sad to know though Katherine of all people that the Prince everyone has been talking about is the Kaine.

Crack.

Lily stilled her movements. Crack?

Her head cocked to the side “Huh?” the cracking continued, turning her head she looked around for anything which could have caused the sound. Nothing seemed out of place, and all the maids were just working quietly. “Is something the matter Lily?” Mable asked, noticing that her friend had stopped working.

Lily opened her mouth but hesitated, she quickly shook her head and replaced her expression with a smile “I think I heard something; it's nothing really” she said trying to reassure her.

Mable gave her skeptical look but shrugged it off continuing her work. 'She probably thinks you've gone crazy or something' Lily thought bitterly. She had a feeling that today was going to be a very long and horrible day.

“Cheer up dear, positive thinking will make the day go faster” Mable whispered nudging Lily with her elbow softly. “You mean morning” Lily sighed leaning her head against the wall and closed her eyes.

“Oh no! Lily wake up!” Mable whispered, “She's coming”

Lily hummed to herself as she walked out of the castle doors, her mood much lighter and happier now that she was finally able to go home. Sighing quietly she reached back and pulled her hood over her head. “Wow it's been pretty busy today” she blew out into the quiet night sky. It was a warm night, and the moon was up and shining brightly in the sky as the stars twinkled, as if illuminating secrets untold. Crickets chirped as Lily made her way down the path. She was alone, but she was not scared, Lily was never scared of the nighttime. Twilight always gave her some peace, it was a time when the world winded down and everything was quiet and soft.
