Chapter 7: A Place for the Soul
----------------------------
“You know, Kaine, you could ask Lily about Katherine and if she is doing any of the things you think she may be doing” says Alexander.
Kaine shrugged “I doubt she will tell me the truth.”
“Well ask her in other words or something. Ask if there has been weird things happening or her reaction at Katherine’s castle when Katherine was talking to her” said Alexander trying to throw ideas on the table for Kaine.
“Alexander be real, she knows I am going to be King soon. She will know without a doubt that if she says something I will do something in return. Hence, she will not tell me anything. Besides I am still working on her trusting me and getting to know me. She just started to stop calling me ‘your Highness’ and ‘my lord’, I don’t want to overbear her with questions of her and the other maids being harmed by Katherine” Kaine said a frown settling on his features.
“You should still try” Alexander prodded a little dejectedly, then with a thoughtful pause he added “I am going to go to that visit to the King, why don’t you talk to her” before going back inside to visit Kaine’s father like he had originally planned.
Kaine watched his friends' retreating back before he sighed and walked towards Lily. Mentally preparing himself he took a seat next to her by the pond. Lily is holding the water lily in her hand.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” asked Kaine.
“Yes” replied Lily studying the flower intently.
“So, how do you like the garden?” Kaine asked.
“It is interesting. I love your garden, my garden at home is small but I love maintaining it. You have various different flowers and each one has a positive meaning to them, which I like because it feels like your garden has a lot of positive energy and a peaceful aura. A perfect get away when you feel like being alone” Lily said as she was looking at all the various flowers in the garden.
Kaine followed her gaze “What does the water lily mean?”
“The water lily means or symbol perfect beauty.”
They were quiet for a while until Kaine enquired more about Lily.
Surprised Lily looked up and asked, “What do you want to know? To be honest there is nothing interesting to know about me”.
“I would disagree, within every person there is a story that they have. Why don’t you tell me yours, I would love to listen” asked Kaine with his charming cute smile that Lily loves to see.
With that she tells Kaine about her father and how he made her childhood so special and unique. She also explains how Ms. Laura took her after her father’s death and how she ended up working at Katherine’s castle. By the time Lily finished telling her story, it was late afternoon and the maids brought them some food probably Alexander’s doing.
Kaine decided to take Alexander’s advice and maybe try and get Lily to tell him about Katherine’s way of treating the maids.
“How is Katherine like with you and the other maids?” asked Kaine with curiosity and concern on his face but trying hard to mask that emotion.
The girl scratched her head “Umm…she’s good” replied Lily but she was hesitant and Kaine noticed for a second, fear and worry flashed in her eyes.
“Is that so?” asked Kaine.
“Yes” said a nervous Lily.
“Does he know? Should I tell him the truth? No! He is the soon to be king, he will take action. That’s not good. But I don’t want to lie, for some reason he likes me, respects me and I don’t want to destroy that. What…why does he want to know? He is going to marry Katherine so maybe he wants to know stuff. Well I don’t know much about her other than what I have seen and heard. Oh dear! What ever shall I do?” thought Lily as she was debating with herself.
