>Virgil<

When we got to school, everyone jumped up and ran off the bus. Well, everyone except me. I was so nervous, I felt like my stomach was being eaten alive by butterflies. Patton and Logan were sitting in front of me and waited as I slowly got up and grabbed my backpack. They got off first, and I slowly shuffled along after them.

We emerged out into a crowd of people. Everyone was heading into the school. 6th and 7th graders were supposed to wait in the gym for the first bell to ring, signalling for everyone to head to class. 8th graders waited in the courtyard. This made me especially nervous because it increased my chances of running into Roman. Lucky for me, our bus had brought us to school a bit late and it wasn't long before the bell rang. Logan and Patton had first period together, but I didn't, so they said goodbye to me and headed off to class.

Slowly, I started to make my way upstairs to my class. When I got there, a small crowd of students were standing outside the door, apparently waiting for it to be opened so they could go inside.

Fearing any type of social interaction, I stayed a few feet away from the other kids. I pulled the hood of my hoodie over my head and hoped no one would notice me.

After a minute or two, someone walked past me and caught my eye. I looked up slightly, kinda curious. When I saw who it was, though, my breath caught in my throat and I momentarily couldn't breathe. It was Roman. Roman! A flurry of emotions attacked me all at once. I was thrilled that he was here, but at the same time so nervous I wanted to curl up and die.

He didn't look all that different from what I remember. He had the same slightly cocky smile, the same stylish brown hair, the same spark in his eyes. Today he was wearing white pants and a white t-shirt with a red and white jacket over it. The jacket had a golden crown symbol etched into it in the front. He was so pretty.

I realized I was staring and looked away quickly, my face flushing. don't notice me. I thought frantically. Don't notice me Don't Notice Me DoN't NoTiCe ME -

He noticed me. I fought the urge to bolt out of the school. To my surprise, his face lit up upon seeing me and he ran over to me. He hesitated a moment, then said, "Virgil?"

I forced myself to look up at him. I noticed that was one thing different about him - he was now roughly two inches taller than me. We used to be the same height. "Hey, Roman." I couldn't help but smile a little.

"Virgil!" he cried, surprising me even more as he hugged me tightly. I was momentarily stunned, then hugged him back slowly. He let go of me and smiled brightly, "God, it's good to see you again."

I hesitated, "It . . is?"

He nodded, "'Course! I was afraid I would come back and not really know anyone and I'd be that awkward new kid, you know? But now I have you! Is this your first period?" I relaxed a little and nodded. I was glad he was glad to see me, and my worries slowly melted away just by standing next him, as if his confidence was flowing into me. "Awesome, same! What are your other classes?" he asked.

We went over our schedules together, waiting for the teacher to let us into the classroom, and found that we had four out of our six classes together - those being first, second, fourth, and sixth period. I was both happy and horrified.

"This is great!" Roman said, grinning, "Hey - Logan and Patton. Are they official yet?"

I smiled and chuckled, "I mean, they're basically boyfriends at this point, but no, they're not official yet."

"God." Roman let out a sigh and ran his figures through his hair. I wondered how long it took him to get his hair that perfect, or if it just came naturally. Either way, I was pretty sure I was staring. "Seriously? I thought for sure they'd hook up already."

"I know, right? They totally should!" I agreed. Just then, the door to the classroom opened and kids started to file inside. We slowly followed.

"Anyway, I have so much to tell you about! You know my parents bought the house right across from you? I almost think they did that on purpose." Roman said as we walked into the classroom together and took seats next to each other.

I nodded, "I noticed the moving truck in the driveway and saw you and your mom taking some stuff into the house. I would have gone to see you, but . . . well, my parents basically put the house on lock-down, and lets just say I spent a lot of time in my room that last week."

Roman laughed, "Yeah, that figures. Your parents aren't my biggest fans." he joked.

I laughed, "Well, you win the biggest understatement of the year award!" We both laughed until the teacher told us to be quiet and started the class.

Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
