Chapter 4

After we left the Owl Emporium, Mum and I went to several more stores, but all I could think about was that owl.

"Lex? Lex? Lexie!"

I jumped back to reality and saw Mum's hand waving frantically in front of my face.

"Huh? What's going on?" I asked.

"What's with you, Lex? You had this look on your face...what is it?"

"I saw an owl at the emporium. She was beautiful. Her feathers were white and light blue."

Mum said nothing as I told her about the owl.

"I'm feeling like some ice cream, how about you, Lex? Ice cream sounds really good right now."

Mum basically pulled me towards the ice cream store.

"I want a scoop of cauldron cakes and cream," Mum said.

The man behind the counter proceeded to give Mum her ice cream before turning to me.

"And for you, little missy?"

"I'd like a butterbeer float. Make it with the freshest butterbeer you have."

The man nodded before adding vanilla ice cream into a cup, then he poured in the bubbly, amber liquid.

'That'll be six Sickles, if you please, Madam."

I gave him the six Sickles I brought with me, then Mum and I walked back out and sat down at a table with an umbrella.

"Mum-"

"Oh! Look! There's Rikki and your father!"

She was acting way too perky.

"Well, it seems as you two have started without us."

"Started what?" I asked.

"Did you get all of Lexie's books? How about her cauldron? Or her winter cloak?"

"Of course, dear."

"Just checking, love."

"Dad-"

"Hurry up, Lexie! I wanna be there when you get your first wand!" Rikki squealed.

"Where's Roxie, Rikki?" I asked.

"I actually have no idea, Lex, maybe she found a cute wizard to snog."

"Oh, ok."

What no one seemed to remember that for me, this was a very important day. It just so happened to be my eleventh birthday. We all headed over to Ollivander's Wand Shop, but Roxie was still nowhere to be seen. As soon as we walked through the door, I saw my dad whisper something into my mum's ear.

"What do you mean you forgot one of Lexie's books?! Now I have to go back and get it!" She shrieked.

Father looked sheepish as she stormed out of the door.

"Erm, we should probably go with her, just to double-check your supplies list. We'll be back in a bit, Lex." Father said as he and Rikki rushed to follow my mum down the busy street.

"Well, hello there, little one." A raspy voice croaked.

I jumped and whirled around to see an elderly man standing in between rows upon rows of wands.

"Are you Ollivander?" I asked.

"Indeed I am, but may I ask, who are you?"

"My name is Lexie Abbott, Mr. Ollivander. I'm here for my first wand."
