Chapter 6
"Oh my god!!!! You got me a Firebolt!!!!!"I squealed excitedly.
I ran up and gave Auntie Sylvia the biggest hug I have ever given anyone.
"You are most welcome, my dear," she said with a smile.
"Now if only you were allowed to bring it to Hogwarts," Mum sighed, knowingly.
Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a Seeker during a Quidditch game. Just like my Uncle Elijah was. One day, he came over and gave me his broom. He taught me how to safely ride it that day, then the next day, let loose a golden snitch. It didn't take long to capture it in my tiny hand. I had only been 7 at the time. Ever since then, I practiced on a broom; working myself harder and harder to be the best Seeker Hogwarts had ever seen.
"Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky," I laughed easily.
"This is no laughing matter, Lexie! You should be allowed to take your new broom to Hogwarts and show them that you are the best Seeker that they'll ever know," Father hissed.
Feeling the tension in the room, Roxie and Rikki came up on either side of me before grabbing my hands and leading me from the room.
"You mustn't joke about things like that, Lex. He has high hopes for you once you leave for Hogwarts," Roxie warned.
We walked to my room before they spread out my brand-new Wizarding Chess board game. Time flew by quickly after that. August came and went and before I knew it, the date was August 30.
"Almost ready?" Mum asked from my doorway.
"Just about. I'm having a wee bit of trouble deciding what to wear," I replied.
My mum smiled warmly and walked over to my closet. After sifting through my clothes, she pulled out a lacy, emerald-green, long-sleeved shirt, a pair of dark-wash, bootcut jeans, and a pair of black sneakers. Mum laid them out on my bed and left me to change in peace. I dressed quickly and stood in front of my huge mirror.
"Rutrum. Pango capillus," I recited.
Just like before, my makeup and hair were flawless. Black angel-wings appeared on my eyelids, I had long, bold eyelashes, and my hair hung perfectly, not one out of place. I heaved my heavy suitcase down the stairs before dropping it on the floor. Then, I walked back up and grabbed Snowflake's cage. She hooted happily when she saw that we were finally about to leave. She didn't like Precious trying to take a feather or two from her small body. I clomped down the stairs with Snowflake to see my family waiting for me.
"Come along, Lex! Your father has already loaded your trunks into the trunk of the car! We wouldn't dare have you arrive late!" Mum fretted.
Mum was all about punctual-ness. If someone was late, to anything, Mum would never let them hear the end of it.
"Alright, Mum! Alright! I'm coming!"
We made our way out the door and piled into the family car. Dad hopped into the driver's seat and started the car. It didn't take long for the warm car, comfy seats, and the comforting lull of the moving car to help me ease into a peaceful nap. Snowflake, who was sitting in her cage upon my lap, also napped. I began to dream about Harry. There was a girl with bushy, brown hair and a ginger boy with dirt on his face with him. The bushy-haired girl was cowering in fear as Harry and the other boy tried to fight a troll. Why a troll? Where were they? Suddenly, Harry cried out.
"Lexie! Please, help us!"
I saw myself leap out of nowhere.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" I scream.
The troll's enormous club raises high into the air before I dropped it onto the beast's head, knocking it out cold. The ground trembled as the troll fell onto its face.
"You-you saved us, Lexie? Why?" Harry asked.
"I don't know. I just had this urge to protect you...like I would for my sisters had it been them and not you,"
I hear myself whisper."Lexie!" I heard a familiar voice shout.
"Roxie?"
"Lex! Come on! Wake up!"
"Rikki?"
"Lexie Rose Abbott! WAKE UP!"
I escaped my subconsciousness to see Roxie and Rikki both trying to wake me.
"Alright, alright! I'm up! What's with all the shouting?"
"You shouted Wingardium Leviosa and then a stray cat was thrown to the air in front of us."
"Oops, sorry dad," I apologized.
"It's fine, Lex. Are you alright? What were you dreaming about?"
"I was dreaming about my classes. And no matter how hard I tried, Wingardium Leviosa would not work. I was the laughingstock of the school," I lied.
Mum looked back at me, reassuringly.
"You will be fine, Lexie. There is no reason for you to have these fears. I have faith in you and we are all proud at how much you have grown."
"Thanks, Mum."
I might have forgotten to mention that I sometimes would have visions of the past and/or future while I slept. Anyway, Dad pulled over and I noticed that we were parked right beside the entrance for the King's Cross railroad station. We stepped out of the car and walked over to a place where carts were being rented out. We then rented one before stacking my luggage onto it. Snowflake sat on top and she gained lots of stares. I ignored these stares and continued on my way, letting my dad guide us to a brick pillar between platforms 9 and 10.
"Here's your ticket, Lex."
Mum handed me a ticket for Platform 9 3/4. But...
"Mum, this says 'Platform 9 3/4'. There is no such thing, is there?"
"Just push your cart through here, Lexie. Trust us." Dad instructed, tapping on the brick pillar.
I backed up to align my cart with the pillar and then ran towards it. Just as I grew fearful and wanted to turn back, I went straight through it to the other side. Looking up, I saw 9 3/4 marking the pillar. I moved away and then my family pushed their way through the pillar. Dad took my cart as Roxie and Rikki handed me a small suitcase and Snowflake's cage.
"What's in the suitcase, Mum?" I asked, lifting it up.
"Your clothes and a robe for you to change into. You are to change into them before you reach Hogwarts."
"Alright."
Dad pushed my cart over to what looked like the luggage cart and people dressed as bellhops loaded it on. He walked back towards us.
"They are getting ready to pull out, Lex. You might wanna get on before they leave you behind."
I didn't say anything except 'good-bye' as I hugged my family. Turning around, I left them and boarded the train. I decided to sit into the compartment closest to my parents, so I could wave to them. The train started to pull forward and I turned in my seat to wave back to my family as I left them behind.
This is it. I'm finally going to do it. Ready or not, Hogwarts, here I come.
