Chapter 3

I awoke early the next morning and began to get ready for a fun day in Diagon Alley. As I struggled to choose something to wear, memories of my parents' hushed conversation outside my door came flooding back.

'Do you think that she will find out the truth if they find it? If she realizes who she is?'

I tried to push it from my mind...but my head was filled with unanswered questions.

What didn't they want me to find? Who was I? Who were my family? Why did they hate me enough to try and kill me?

I touched the back of my neck. The cut from my parents' failed attempt to kill me still hurt me from time to time, though I didn't know why.

*Knock, knock*

"Lexie? Are you up, sweetie?" Mum called softly.

"Yes, Mum, I'm up."

"We're leaving soon, so hurry up, come downstairs, and eat some breakfast."

"Ok."

I looked into my closet and saw a cute, dark green dress that fell to my mid-thighs. Looking further, I saw a pair of ripped, silver leggings. This ensemble of clothes looked super cute, especially on me. The green matched my green eyes and the silver made my black hair shimmer. My signature knee-high, black boots completed my look and then I walked downstairs for breakfast. My family was already seated at the table. They turned when they heard my boots clomp down the stairs.

"Good morning, Lexie," Roxie said cheerfully.

"Good morning, everyone," I yawned.

"Did you sleep okay, honey? You look drained..."

"I'm-*yawn*-fine."

Liza put a bowl of cereal on my placemat. I picked up a spoon and took a bite of my Cocoa Puffs.

"Lexie, aren't you gonna do your makeup? You never leave home without your makeup," Rikki stated.

Sighing I said, "Rutrum."

Everyone looked astonished as I recited a spell that I had created myself...hey! It's useful for me!

"Accio, hand mirror," I commanded.

A hand mirror that was sitting on a shelf flew into my outstretched hand. I looked at myself and saw that my new spell had worked perfectly. My makeup looked flawless.

"You totally have to teach me that!" Roxie and Rikki squealed at the same time.

"That was absolutely beautiful, darling!"

"Outstanding job, my daughter."

"Er, thanks Mum and Dad...it was just a little something that I thought of yesterday morning."

I shrugged nonchalantly and shoved another spoonful of cereal into my mouth.

"Try this, miss. It will help wake you," Liza said, as she offered me a mug full of sweet-smelling liquid.

I snatched the mug from her hands, took a drink and almost immediately felt more energetic.

"Wow," was all I said.

My family had already finished their breakfast and didn't have to wait long before I finished mine.

"Mum, how are we gonna get to Diagon Alley?"

"We are gonna use a portkey, of course!" She replied.

"Alright girls, hold onto this candlestick. It's gonna take us straight to..."
