Bright white light flooded my vision and I squinted. Jimin was silent, thinking of his next thing to say. He was facing the door but when he looked back at me and saw I was awake he nearly fell out of his chair in shock and disbelief.
And then he cried. I wanted to wrap my arms around him and tell him it was okay but the rest of my body still refused to agree with me.
I could talk, but it proved to be very difficult.
"J-Ji....min." I tried my best but it didn't come out as I wanted it to.
He lied his body gently on mine in an attempt to hug me but it was if I was fragile as glass and he didn't want to break me.
"G-God I'm so glad you're okay. Let me call a nurse in for you."
I attempted a nod but my head only moved slightly.
"Check her vitals and motor function. Sweetheat, how you feeling?" The doctor asked as his nurses went to work on my body.
"I-I'm okay." My speech was getting clearer and I had began to be able to move my fingers and toes more.
My brain was slowly waking up everything in my body. Two more people rushed in the room. Most likely visitors.
"Alright Ms. Jiae. You're looking good. She seems to be doing fine. Her muscles should be completely functional in about an hour at the most. If not call me. She May be weaker since atrophy is common in coma patients. Anyway, I'll leave you all to it." He smiled exiting the room.
"OH MY GOD YOU'RE OKAY!!!! MY LITTLE BABY IS OKAY!!!" The woman sobbed coming to hug me. I recognized her face but I can't gather any memories from her.
The only person I recall is Jimin.
"Now Yeobo don't crush her, she's still got an injury." The stoic man piped from behind her.
He chuckled at me and said:
"It's good to have you back."
They looked so happy I didn't want to tell them but I knew it had to be done.
"I-I'm sorry. I feel really bad, I do. But I only remember Jimin."
The woman looked devastated all over again and the man looked disappointed.
"Y-your memories are gone?" She whispered.
"Most of them. I remember some times I had with Jimin, in this nice house. And you guys were there. I'm gonna assume you're both my parents but I can't say I actually remember you. I don't remember anything past getting on a plane to Detroit either. Also... Wasn't there another guy? Like my dad?"
The woman sighed and sat down in her seat.
"I suppose I should fill you in. I am your mother and this is your step father, Seokmin. The other man you're talking about, your biological father died when your were 10. D-does that help?" She questioned.
"A-A little. I think I'll get better as we spend more time together." I assured.
The only reason I knew Jimin is because he came every day.
"Are you okay? In any pain?" Seokmin asked.
"No. I can't feel much, and I can't feel anything below my ribcage." I said.
"That's good. At least you feel alright." My mother mumbled.
"H-how long have I been..."
"Two and a half months." Jimin replied.
"How?!" I yelled.
"Hey calm down..." Jimin said leaning me back on the bed.
"What even happened to me...?" I questioned.
"After getting on the plane, I discovered you and made you stick with me. Then we met this android named Connor-
"Hello. My name is Connor. I've been sent by Markus."
Who took us to an android warehouse to gather more troops. A second more hostile Connor tried to stop us, but you got him pretty good." He chuckled.
"Really?"
"Yup. Then we met Hank. Who ended up shooting the android in the head and finishing the job. After that we actually went to the protest, you weren't accepted at first-
"He's got a human with him."
"They should be exiled immediately."
But not too long after they figured out you were a good person. Then... They bombed us. More specifically the region you were in. I got to you as quick as I could-
"J-Jimin..."
"Jiae! Just stay awake, it's gonna be okay, just stay with me."
But you were fading fast, and there was nothing much I could do. It thought you were dead but Markus, the leader of the android revolution checked your pulse when I didn't even think to. You were barely hanging on. We rushed you to the hospital. The next two and a half months is history." He stated.
"Did they fix it? I feel fine." I said cluelessly.
"They couldn't have. Surgery would have killed you." He stated.
Before I even got to ask questions the doctor came in and clicked his pen.
"Okay, so I came to talk about the date of surgery." He mumbled.
"What?! You left a hole in me?! Where is it?!" I sat up trying to move my gown away from the wound to see it.
"Lie back please, you'll make it worse." The doctor ordered.
"I-I don't understand... You haven't fixed my injury?" I asked feeling scared.
How am I living with a hole in my side?!
"Sweetheart, we could not put you under while you were already asleep. You would never wake up again. Yes we left the wound open, but we've been dressing it everyday so it wouldn't get infected. We're taking care of you, believe me." The man assured.
I nodded, trying to calm myself.
"Concerning payments, she was a casualty so, the government will provide payment for the operation. No need to worry about that. They apologize for not paying for everything sooner and promise to reimburse your family." The doctor stated.
I could hear my whole family sigh in relief. Has it really been that hard for them to make ends meet? I felt guilty although there was nothing I could do.
"Well what do you think, Jiae? When do you want to get your surgery done?" The doctor questioned.
"As soon as I can. I wanna be out of this hospital." I said eagerly.
"Alright. We can schedule you for tomorrow. How does that sound?"
"Perfect."
