Chapter|Four|Investigation|

....It looked like a mess. Byakuya laid on his stomach under the table, I couldn't see how he died but what I knew for certain was that he lost a lot of blood. How did he even get under there and why? What happened in here to cause a murder. I felt everyone's eyes burning into my back as I looked at the body. Did they suspect me that much? I turned around to face them.

"Can someone please inform me of what happened in here instead of suspecting me?"

There was silence for a few minutes until Nagito spoke up.

"If no one else wants to tell her then I will. While we were at the party a blackout happened. Everyone was obviously scared as it happened so suddenly. When the lights came back on we couldn't find Byakuya anywhere until Akane said she smelled blood which was when Hajime went and look under the table."

That makes a lot of sense now. A blackout? Someone could have caused that. I'll have to look into that later.

"Ah, also [F/N] Monokuma gave us a Monokuma file. It gives us the important details of where he was killed and how."

"Thanks, Nagito."

As I looked around everyone was just stood still. Did they know their lives were on the line? I ignored it for now and looked at the Monokuma file.

Cause of Death:

The victim's body was discovered in the dining hall of the old building near the Hotel Mirai. The estimated time of death is 11:30 p.m. The victim was repeatedly stabbed over ten times between the throat and abdominal region, resulting in death. Aside from that, the body has no other external injuries, and chemicals such as poison were detected.

So he was stabbed. With what? I saw a knife near his body earlier but I don't think that's it. It seemed his death wasn't immediate but the shock of being stabbed would have helped to kill him as well as the amount of blood he lost. I want to see what his stab wounds were like. I know Mikan will probably check them out too but I'll do it myself just to be sure. After reading the Monokuma file I turned around and knelt by the body. I was going to flip this body over, I don't care what the others think. I took my cardigan off and pushed the body over. I heard multiple gasps behind me.

"What? I'm investigating and you guys should too. You don't wanna die, do you?"

"...Investigating? ...Ah, the rules do say after a murder has happened we get to investigate to find out who killed the victim and go to a class trial." Thank you, Chiaki. You may be able to not let the others get the ones who want to investigate killed.

"B-B-B-But you're touching a dead body!! That's disrespectful ya know!"

"Kazuichi, I've dealt with many dead bodies. I want to find out what his stab wounds are like. From that, we can determine the murder weapon. Remember, we don't only have to find out who killed him but also their motive and the murder weapon and how they did it. If you all stand around you will kill us all and the murderer will live. Now I'll do my investigation and you can all do yours. I know what I'm doing."

"She's right guys, you have got to have hope in finding the murderer. I know I can't say or do much because hopeless trash like me is worthless but let's investigate until the class trial!"

And with that, I focused on my task at hand. Examining the body. I looked at the stab wound on his neck first. I only need to look at one because the weapon should be the same. As I looked at the wound I noticed how small it was. It couldn't have been a knife. The holes were too small. As I looked closer I could tell that whatever killed Byakuya should be around 5mm in diameter and is quite long too. As I made a note of that I noticed that Mikan was next to me. She must be doing an autopsy as she was muttering things to herself. As I looked under the table I found some night vision goggles. Byakuya must have used these to find his way around but how did he not get questioned as to why he brought them? There was also some duct tape with what looked to be glow in the dark paint and a knife that also had glow in the dark paint on. Did the killed try to kill him with these but their plan failed and someone else killed him? Why else would there be a knife under the table?
