"Mom--look..."
I turn my attention to where she is pointing, noticing a figure wearing a terrifying white mask, complete with blacked out eyes and no mouth. The figure has a masculine build and carries a bat slung over one shoulder. Two more of them--all dressed the same walk around our living room, heading towards the stairs.
"Betty--go!" I whisper, panic ringing through every ounce of my body. I push both girls into the nearest room, which happens to be the upstairs bathroom and lock the door behind me.
"Mom--what are we--what are we gonna do?!" Betty whispers, crouching down by the tub, her entire body shaking. Jellybean sits down next to her, tears running down her cheeks. I pull both of them close, wiping away Jellybean's tears, "Listen, no one is going to hurt you, okay?" I pause, "I am going to make sure of that. We have to--"
Voices ring through our hallway and I stop talking to go closer to the bathroom door to listen. "I don't think anyone's home..." one voice announces, it sounds like a female. "Shut up! I know they're in here. Boss told me Jones is gone this week leaving his knocked up little lady and precious daughter here alone--and ponytail too."
I realize I've been holding my breath the entire time. Who is 'the boss?' Why are these people trying to break into our house?! What do they want? I crawl back to Betty and Jellybean, "Okay, listen carefully. We need to figure what we are going to do if they come in here--"
Before I can even come up with a plan, the handle on the bathroom door is jiggled and I hear laughter coming from the other side of the door. Loud bangs ring through our ears as the door is being kicked aggressively, eventually being torn off the hinges, leaving the figure standing before us.
"Surprise!" the man laughs maniacally, lunging forward towards us. Before I can even think, I find myself wrapped in his arms, fighting his embrace, "RUN!" I scream to the girls, and they take off down the stairs, while I continue fighting the man in my bathroom.
"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!" I scream at him, he just laughs as we continue to struggle. I attempt to pull out the gun on him, but he overpowers me. Luckily, while he's distracted by seeing a gun out, he let's go of me enough for me to escape, immediately sprinting down the stairs, but I lose the gun in the chaos. "Shit!" I mentally curse, but now my only concern is finding the girls.
They are at the back door, struggling with it. "Mom! Something's wrong with it! It won't unlock! We're trapped in here!" Betty shouts. Another two masked figures emerge from the hallway, "Found them!" a female screams, lunging for Betty. The man next to her comes toward me, grabbing me and dragging me towards the dining room.
Betty is also being drug into the dining room and we both are thrown down into chairs, our hands tied behind us, unable to escape. "Why are you doing this?!" I cry, begging for an answer. "We only are doing what we've been told to do--now shut up!" the man screams at us.
I have no idea where Jellybean is--which terrifies me and gives me hope all at the same time. I feel my baby kick around inside of me, a good sign considering all that has happened tonight. All I want to do is protect my unborn child and the girls.
"Tell us--why are you here?" I directly ask, trying to distract them until I figure out how to get us out of this one. "We already told you! We were sent to do this!" the female pipes up. "Where is Malachi?" she asks the man.
"I'm sure he's upstairs planning how we want to get rid of these bitches," he snarls. That name sticks out to me. I'm almost positive Malachi is the name of the leader of the ghoulies-- the same one who almost killed Jughead. These people who have broken in are the ghoulies.
