dear vanessa,

i've watched the tapes over and over and you know what i've found? you tend to come in around the same time, every so often.

just, you don't always come to my register, if you're there when it's my shift. i haven't figured out why yet, but i can just ask you when i find you.

that's such a weird term or phrase to use: find you.

all i'm simply doing is watching where you go. just a easily played game of. . . hide and seek?

you know, i duck behind a bush or some convenient tree whenever you glance behind as you're walking home with the bottle of liquor in your hands that you purchase every two weeks on a thursday or wednesday at around, eh, 11:00. . ?

i speed up when you flick your head back to the path ahead of you and start taking longer strides, as if you know i'm behind you.

but why were you afraid, vanessa? i would never hurt you. i love you.

and you love me—don't you?

well, anyway, i can't wait to laugh about this with you soon. i have your address now, and i'm pretty sure and confident i know your apartment number.

soon i'll see you, and soon i can finally give you these letters.

sincerely, jonathan
