OO3 ~ Fiancée

~One year ago~

You look up from your laptop when you hear keys being dropped into the bowl by the door and the front door being slammed shut. You squint your eyes, seeming that Tom never throws with doors or keys and it makes you wonder if he's in a mood.

Your feeling is right when he walks into the living room, mumbling a short "Hi" before entering the kitchen to pour himself a drink. 

'Are you alright, dear?' You ask, shutting the laptop entirely with the page of the bakery where you are planning to order your wedding cake. 'It's unbelievable. It's like they want to crush me and talk me into guilt.' He says, both hands going through his hair. 

'What? Why? What happened?' You push the chair across from you from under the table as a sign that he has to sit his ass down and talk to you. He does so and once seated, another loud sigh rolls over his lips. 

'I had an interview today about my part as Aristotle.' You knew that. The movie is a year old now but the public really liked it and want to see the "making of." That's, of course, amazing! 

'I know it happens in every single interview but this particular man made it very obvious that he wasn't supporting us.' He folds his hands together while staring at the table. You raise your eyebrow and sigh. 

'To be honest, Tom. We will always keep this. We have an age difference of 18 years. We don't care and a lot of others don't, either but there will always be people who do care. You can't please everyone.' He knows you're right but he's not done ranting about this. 

'You weren't there. If you could just see it..' But then it hits him. The interview with him was this morning so there could be a slight possibility that it's on youtube already. You're lucky. Parts of the interview are on it. One part is of course about the movie and Tom's involvement in it and there's also a different video about Tom's personal life. Tom is a very private guy but he is open about his dating life. Especially now that he is getting married. 

You play with the engagement ring on your finger as he starts the clip. It's indeed as bad as he described it. 

After a little bit of chit-chat about every day life and all that comes with it, the subject comes on his dating life. 

'I heard you are getting married.' It starts rather ok. Nothing wrong so far. 

Tom nods. 'Yes, yes I am. You heard right.' The smile on his face is bright and you can't help but feel a little proud that you're the reason. 

'Congratulations!' How kind of him.

'Thank you!' 

'Your fiancée is much younger than you.' Oh crap, here it comes.

'Yes.' You know for a fact that after this answer, something bad is going to be said.

'Is that a problem?' Tom looks at him with a raised eyebrow. 

'A problem? Why would it be a problem? I am going to marry her because I love her and because she said yes. Surely there is no problem here. At all.' He stays professional although you can see the emotion behind his eyes. It's highly unprofessional, if they would ask you, to ask questions like this. 

You stop the clip and just stare at Tom, who is hiding his anger. 'It's crazy. To assume there is a problem with our relationship. Fuck him. Fuck all of them who think like that. Tom, we're getting married soon and we have a beautiful son together. I'm happy, are you?' 

He nods. 'Of course I am. How many times have I told you that?' 

'Exactly! So let's not care. It's not ok how the media portrays us but if we keep beating ourselves up for it then we might as well just give up now.' He smiles and nods. 

'But, how was the rest of the day? I'm sure there were more good parts than bad.' He shrugs and sighs. 'Not really. Since it happened in the morning and my colleagues knew what's up, they couldn't stop talking about it what made it worse.' You watch him as he downs his drink within seconds before standing up and going back towards the kitchen.

'Anyway, did you find something for the wedding?' He asks when he returns. You made a deal to do everything together, which is tough because you don't agree with everything but besides that, it's nice. Then it really feels like your wedding. 

You smile and nod, opening your laptop again. You don't want to admit it, not to him and also not to yourself that the interview bothers you more than you would like.
