OO6 ~ Survived

You don't know how long the earthquake lasted but it felt like hours. Your arm and leg got bruised pretty bad and your head is also bleeding, thanks to rubble falling on you. Tom also has his arm bruised, maybe even broken and has blood on his side and legs, his forehead containing a large wound that knocked him out for quite a bit.

Half of the building has collapsed and the rest is still standing, in critical condition. A part of your room is gone but your father was right about the doorway.

You're still clutched to Tom, panic in your eyes but remaining calm even though everything in you wants to lose it. 'We're alive..' You mutter, eyes wide and pulling Tom in for a short, relieved kiss. 'We're alive..' You mutter again.

Carefully you both step out of the room and onto the street. Your mind wonders off to the many animals that are living in the sanctuary in the back. You just hope they're safe but you also hope they haven't escaped. It would be something, though, to have a giraffe standing next to you. Or a lemur.

Medical staff are rushing over to you the second they spot you, guiding you towards the ambulance and cleaning the wounds as good as they can. They are rambling about taking you towards the hospital but your entire head hurts, the adrenaline now slowly fading. The thought of you almost dying is the center thought right now. Leaving Oliver an orphan, and never seeing him again. Your parents surviving you.. you don't want to do that to them.

Tom is in a worse condition than you, with the wound on his head and all. This is not how you wanted or expected your honeymoon to go. The long days exloring cities and villages, relaxing on the beach or by the pool and the many many days just in bed, tangled up and making love.

You feel how Tom carefully grabs your hand and brings it to his lips. 'Let's just say it now, Madagascar wasn't a very good idea.' You shake your head and shuffle closer towards him. 'We should have done more research. We knew this could happen, but we never thought it would happen when we were here.' He nods but then you feel the ground shaking again. Panic is forming in your chest again but it only lasts for a few seconds. An after shock.

Later, you're both sitting in the hospital. The doctors have just finished treating your wounds and the nurses have taken your insurance information while also bringing a few glasses of water.

'Promise me we're going to re-do this vacation in a different, more safe place.' He nods and promises you because this isn't what he wanted either, obviously.

'I hope we don't have to stay here for observation. I just want to take the first plane home and heal there, in the comfort of our own house. Knowing it's not entirely lost, soothes me a little. We'll just have to look at the possibilities.' You say, staring at the stitches in your arm. You were lucky it didn't break but it wasn't just a bruise either. Your leg is entirely blue and it hurts like shit but the doctors saw nothing broken and besides that you have a mild concussion.

Tom's arm on the other hand is broken and he needed stitches in his head as well, a concussion is also present.

'How are you feeling?' A doctor comes in to check up on your current status and to see if you haven't gotten worse. 'Not very great.' You answer but assure him that it's ok if he could discharge you both.

'I'm sorry, I can't do that. I need to have you here for at least a week. What if your condition worsens and there is no help available? You can't even walk properly, let alone travel back home.' You raise your head, asking why you can't travel.

'People with concussions cannot handle the pressure in the sky, I thought you knew that.' You want to say something but he keeps talking. 'Also, the oxygen in the sky is less than on land so the symptoms only get worse if you do decide to fly. Just stay put here. We'll provide you with the best treatment and care.'

'We have no other choice, honey.' Tom sighs and then turns towards the doctor. 'We get to keep this room, right?' He nods, smiles and says the nurses will bring medication in a few hours.

'Bloody great..' You groan and lie back on your bed. Hopefully, there is a small chance you don't have to stay for a week but you don't know if that chance is real.
