Honesty

The sun was at its highest point and not a cloud was in sight, the heat the sun radiated making it harder for the women who were currently training. Metal met metal as they continuously tried to get in a hit. Grunts and growls escaping their lips as sweat poured down over their faces as they continued. One pair of eyes were carefully watching one of the shieldmaidens a little extra as he snacked on an apple.

"Hvitserk", a voice beside him said, making his eyes divert for just a second as the sister of the shieldmaiden who he's had his eyes on demanded some sort of attention.

"How is she doing?" She asked as if she somehow knew how he looked at her.

"Great, she is definitely ready to join the raids", he said and just as he said it, the woman he'd been watching closely stood triumphant over her comrade.

Sidsel smiled as Hvitserk mentioned that her sister was victorious. "I'm not impressed", a new voice interfered, startling Hvitserk for a moment. Ivar. Sidsel had known he was there but Hvitserk didn't notice his presence before he spoke. Maybe because his attention was on the beauty that walked towards them. Even as she looked sweaty and dirty from the training she just endured, Hvitserk still thought she was the most beautiful woman in the village. Her piercing blue eyes found his gaze as she made her way over to the group who had been following the sparring match she just finished.

"Ivar, be nice to my sister", Sidsel warned the youngest Ragnarsson.

"I'm always nice", he muttered and Sidsel just laughed at his words. Hvitserk just ignored his brother as he couldn't keep his eyes off of Asta for one second. Gods he needed to bed her even if she didn't agree to marry. Surely she would just like to tumble around in a bed for a night, or two. He wouldn't complain.

Her braids that were keeping her brown hair out of her face had become loose throughout her training session so a lot of strands were standing out wildly. How he wanted to wrestle with her in a different kind of way than fighting, making all her braids come undone as he made her come undone.

She was tall, almost as tall as himself with toned muscles after all the years of hard training. Still, her body was very feminine but not a petite woman at all.

"Nicely done, Asta. Surely you will join us on the raid to the Mediterranean seas", Hvitserk praised the shieldmaiden and put on a charming smile that he used when flirting with women. "Thank you Hvitserk", Asta simply said. "I look forward to my first raid, Björn finally accepted my request to join", she added with a smile, overjoyed that she finally will join her brothers and the rest of the warriors in a real raid.

"You weren't that good, you left your sides too exposed you were only lucky because your opponent didn't notice", Ivar said, making Asta nod understanding what he was saying. "Thank you for the advice", she said earnestly, turned to Ivar. "Honesty is always best", she added.

"My brother is only trying to share a bed with you for a night", Ivar said. If Sidsel weren't sitting between the two brothers Hvitserk would have most definitely tried to punch his younger brother.

"Ivar", Hvistserk hissed at him through gritted teeth.

Ivar just chuckled. "She just said that honesty is always best". Asta started to laugh at the two Ragnarssons and their antics, not bothered at all that Hvitserk seemed to want to bed her. And then she got a challenging glare in her eyes as she looked straight at Hvitserk.

"If you beat me in a sparring match, I'll consider spending a night with you", Asta smirked cunningly. Hvitserk had never been so quick to get his weapons.

Sidsel just shook her head as she heard the sound of metal meeting metal again. "She will never agree to bed him", she mumbled.

"You're always honest with me, right Ivar?" the blind girl asked after a little while.

"Brutally so", he confirmed. "Good", she answered with a satisfied smile, of course not noticing how Ivar himself was smiling slightly at her.

The main characters in this story will be Ivar and Sidsel but sometimes I will throw in chapters with Asta and Hvitserk like this one. I hope you won't mind and I hope you enjoy the story so far. We're just getting to know the characters a little bit in these first few chapters.

Constructive criticism or questions are always welcome in the comments.
