Niall's POV

I was dreaming of Blair and her beauty when I heard a scream. It wrenched me right out of my amazing dream and out of bed.

"Stop! Please!" a girl yelled. It was coming from the other side of the wall.

Blair.

Moving quickly and without thinking, I yanked my door open and burst into hers.

"No!" she yelled.

There was no one in here. She was having a nightmare.

"Stop!" she screamed.

"Blair!" I exclaimed, running to her side and placing my hands on her shoulders. She was thrashing around, her legs tangled in the sheets. Her pretty green eyes opened and they were terrified. She didn't realize she was awake. Or she thought someone else would hurt her while she was awake.

That's when it hit me. She sounded like she'd had nightmares before. That could mean that her father would wake her up but then...

She thought I was her dad.

"Blair, it's me it's Niall. You're safe, it's okay." I said, untangling her from the sheets. She was still thrashing.

I had an idea though.

I gathered her small, thrashing body into her arms and carried her back to my room. I sat down on the window seat, her in my lap, and opened the curtain.

"Look, Blair. Look. You're in London. Away from your father. You're safe. I'm here. Nobody can hurt you." I said.

Gradually, she calmed.

"Niall?" she whispered.

"Yeah. I'm here." I said.

"Why did you come for me?" she asked.

Why did I go to her?

"You were screaming." I said.

"Not for you." she replied.

"I just...i just thought that you needed to be woken up." I finally said.

"Niall, I have been on my own with those nightmares since I was eleven years old. No one has ever woken me up because they wanted to comfort me. You did." she said.

"Is that a bad thing?" I asked.

"I don't know. No one has cared about me for five years. I forgot what it felt like." Blair said.

This was absolutely heartbreaking. Blair Diana Fallon was absolutely gorgeous. And she didn't seem to be a bad person. She was abused and damaged, she had every right to be horrible to people. But she wasn't. She wasn't exactly inviting, but she didn't appear to know how to be. Hell, she just said she didn't know how to be cared about.

"Let me teach you." I blurted.

"What?" she asked.

"Let me teach how to let people care for you." I said.

She climbed out of my lap to look at me. There, in the moonlight, with her brown hair falling over her shoulders and her green eyes apprehensive but hopeful, she was so gorgeous it hurt me.

"Why would you do that?" she asked. I knew what she was thinking.

"I'm not doing it for sex, Blair. I really, actually, genuinely believe that you're a sweet, good, beautiful girl. And I want to help you. I want to save you. I want to care about you and teach you how to care about other people. I want to teach you how to love again, and how to be loved." I said.

She stared at me.

"I also happen to believe in love at first sight." I whispered.

She kept staring.

"Say something." I begged.

"Okay." she said.

"Okay you'll say something, or okay you'll let me do this?" I asked.

"Both. Both, Niall. I don't know why, but I want to trust you. So I'm going to. Just, please don't make me wish I hadn't." She said.

Letting out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding, I pulled her back into my arms.

"I won't." I said into her hair.

I held her a few minutes before looking at the clock. It was nearly two in morning.

"Do you want to go back to sleep?" she asked.

Blair tensed. "Not back in there." she said.

I rubbed her back. "You can stay in here, if you want. I'll protect you from the bad dreams if you want." I said.

After a moment she nodded. "You don't have to if you don't want to." I said.

"I want to." She said.

"Alright." I said, pulling away. Then I noticed she was still wearing her clothes from earlier.

"Do you need something to sleep in?" I asked.

She blushed so red I could see it in the dim lighting.

"Hey," I said, nuzzling her cheek. "You don't need to be embarrassed around me. I already think you're perfect, nothing can change that."

She relaxed a little and nodded. "I would like to get out of these jeans." She said.

I smiled. "One sec." I said.

A moment later she was slipping into one of my t shirts. The hem fell almost to her knees, she was so short. I smiled. And I thought she couldn't get more beautiful.

"Thanks for the shirt." she said nervously.

"Of course. Are you comfy now?" I asked.

She nodded. I flopped back into my bed. "Come here then." I said.

Smiling a cute little smile, she slipped under the quilt with me and I put my arms around her.

"Goodnight, Blair." I said.

"Night, Niall." She replied.
