Whats in the dark

My name's Saeji and I'm Korean as you may have guessed, I was talking to my girlfriend over the phone, I enjoy talking late at night with her weather over the phone or personally but this time she seemed really scared.

She was complaining about something making a weird noise, she seemed really spooked.

Are you...afraid of the dark?- I asked her playfully.

"Of course not." She giggled finally.

After a little while she decided that she was gonna go to sleep and we exchanged goodnights and hung up.

That's the last time I heard from her.

She went missing, it was almost as if she was dragged from her bed, and claimed by the night.

Well that's what I think at least.

About a month after I thought everything had settled down I started getting these... Weird phone calls in the middle of the night. They were creepy because they were always in the middle of the night and when I answer it's always the same thing, weird moaning and whispering that somehow always brought to mind a backwards playing tape.

At first I thought it was one of my friends goofing around.

But after the fifth night, it turned from being creepy to full blown scary.

Ok let me explain I remember it vividly, I mean it's not like someone can forget something like that right?

I had gotten up the night to answer the phone, see my parent don't really mind me being on the phone until late. Probably because I've never done it before.

I've never stayed on the phone past ten, it's something that I don't think I'll ever get used to, anyway when I answered the phone to my surprise a voice resembling my missing girlfriend answered back.

The reason I said resembling is because the person whispered and so low that I could barely hear what she said. She whispered -Saeji... It's so dark and cold... I'm scared... Help me... So cold...- and then the line went dead.

This freaked me out because she was missing or kidnapped. If she could manage one phone call why not tell where she was and why repeat the same thing?

The next morning I decided to tell my parents.

"It's probably just someone you know pulling some sort of prank on you." My father said as he rushed to get dressed for work.

"Did you check the caller Id?" My mom asked.

I did but, got nothing no Id and no number to call back.

Anyway a full day passed, uneventful and normal. So I did everything I usually would and went to bed and at the same time that night, I got another call but this one was different, it left me unable to refuse to believe what I'd heard. Unable to stop myself from listening. I felt as if my mind had been violated and scarred by the sound of the choked voice and slurred speaking.

-Saeji... Saeji...Saeji...Saeji... Come see me... I'm lonely... Saeji....So... Lonely... Even though I'm so close to you... by the.....the close-closet-closet -

My heart started pounding in my chest, my breathing became shallow and ragged, my mind contorted and my stomach sank.

I couldn't look at the closet that was just a few inches from where I stood. I couldn't  look at the shadow in the corner where the light didn't reach. The black shadow that seemed to swallow that part of the wall. I could feel myself sweating.

Then  against my fear and my own reluctancy I looked, I wish I hadn't.........

Saaaaaaaeeeejiiii......
