Noah and Cody had lived together for quite some time. Before then, Noah was by himself in his own apartment. Located on the third floor, room number 3B. Inside, all the furniture was well organized and neat. It hid the pealing paint which led to cracks within the walls. Multiple bookshelves were stocked full, all throughout the interior. It was always quiet and he enjoyed it that way. Noah spent his days doing the same routine. Going to his job as a general office clerk for his daily hours. Writing or filing memos that often seemed useless. Then coming back to room 3B, just to wake up to the same schedule tomorrow. He never was that pleased with life, and he definitely wasn't living the dream, but it was better than nothing. Each month he had struggled a bit to pay off the entire rent and would barely manage to make it. But it all turned out in the end. Things were just pretty average.

And then, Cody came along. He showed up outside Noah's apartment on a Saturday late in the evening. This definitely took Noah by surprise. The two were always friends in school, but never extremely close. Cody sat there begging to let him stay just a few nights. When Noah inquired why, he tried to dodge each question. Noah was fed up and about to shut the door until he finally cracked. Cody informed him on how he'd been living with his parents until they recently booted him out. He avoided directly saying why though, and his expression changed to a hidden embarrassment. To assure the situation he also stated he had a job and all but it wasn't the best pay and he definitely didn't have enough to get a place yet.

"Ok ok, fine you can stay. Just a few nights though."

He thanked him and stepped inside with all his packed items.

"Why not stay at Sierra's or Gwen's?"

"I've tried a million times to ask Gwen, but got shot down each time. And I'd choose anywhere besides Sierra's."

Fair enough. So that was that. A few nights turned into a few weeks, which then turned into a few months. The two were roommates. (oh my god they were roommates.) And their relationship was a bit strange. They'd get in small disputes somewhat often, normally due to something stupid Cody had done. Only occasionally their disputes would turn into full out heated arguments and fights. At the end of the day though, they found ways to get along with each other. They'd goof around and even stay up all night talking. The two would call each other their closest friend.

Cody always tried to help Noah out with the rent but it wasn't nearly half the pay. In fact it wasn't much help at all. Noah could easily kick him out, but he didn't. He could never bring himself to do that. Despite how irritating he found Cody at times, and how often they would disagree with each other, Noah deep down cared for him so much. Cody added new twists to his life that weren't there before. Small conversations that would seem insignificant but always made his day just a bit brighter. He found himself feeling a bit more motivated to actually return home each day.

Noah sat in the living room, a book in his hand, while having a fairly casual conversation with Cody. He caught himself paying more attention to the book than the interaction, causing Cody to take control of the conversation. So it quite quickly became Cody just gushing over girls. Especially how he still wasn't over Gwen, his dream girl.

"Blah blah" Noah quietly mouthed to himself while rolling his eyes.

"Hm?"

"Nothing, continue." He glared over at Cody before returning to his book. He couldn't care less for this conversation. It's not like he could relate or add anything to it. He's never felt that way towards a girl, or anyone really. So who cares.

He let Cody go on for a few more minutes about stupid things that had happened between him and Gwen, or some other girl, that likely occurred months ago. It became overbearingly annoying. Noah then abruptly shut his book tight and placed it back on the shelf. He didn't want to hear it anymore.

"Good night." He simply said before making his way to his bedroom. Cody sat there in silence, mainly confused from that sudden cutoff. He was left alone with his wonders. Noah was always passive aggressive towards him, not liking to state directly what's really bothering him. He'd throw out little things but Cody really had to scrape it out of him if he wanted the full truth. While Cody was a bit more straightforward, he too would find his way around certain topics and confrontations. The two just danced around issues and would only face them once they'd gotten to the tipping point. Cody quietly sighed, tried to clear his mind, and went to sleep.
