My father arrived home shortly after five. The table was cleared of the few small boxes that were left from the kitchen ad the table was set. I had just placed the few decorative pieces that my mother always had on the table when he stepped through the door.
He walked in and stopped as he admired the living room a smile forming on his lips. "Looks like my ladies have been busy at work today. It looks wonderful." he said beaming. I blushed with a smile of my own as I turned back to help place the food upon the table.
"My father came into the dining area and placed his briefcase on the floor close to the wall. He then walked over to my mother and wrapped his arms around her waist, taking in a deep breath. "The food smells amazing. I could smell it as soon as I got off of the elevator." He said softly. My mother smiled. "I made your favorite. Meatloaf with home made mashed potatoes. Ashlynn made a salad and some garlic bread. I hope your hungry."
"I'm starving." He said as he gently pulled away from her after placing a kiss upon her cheek. "Is Cody back yet?" he asked as he searched the room for him. "He's in taking a shower." My mother replied. "He has some good news to share with you."
I went to the fridge and pulled out the gallon of milk. I walked over to the table and began to fill up the glasses. As I placed them by the plates one my one I could feel my stomach beginning to growl with hunger of its own. My father was right, dinner smelled amazing. As I placed my glass by my plate I was about to turn away to put the milk back but as I placed the lid back on the jug I noticed that my glass was moving across the table.
I couldn't help but stare. I was frozen. I couldn't move. The glass continued to slide tll it was on the very edge and then it tipped, the milk along with the glass came tumbling to the floor with a shatter as pieces of glass went everywhere. I gasped and let out a cry as I jumped back in surprise.
