“Alright Josie, you’re done for the day. Good job.” The photographer, Max, told me. I hopped down from the small ledge I’d been standing on.
“Thanks Max.” I told him, giving him a quick hug before walking off toward Wardrobe to change back into my clothes. I was a newly-signed model. Well, I’d been modeling for two years but until you’d been around a few years, the older and more experienced models considered you a newbie. Before I could change back into the jeans and sweater I’m come in, my phone vibrated on the counter creating a loud buzzing sound. It was my manager, Tina.
“Hey Tina.”
“Hey Josie. Did you just finish your shoot?” she asked.
“Yeah. I was just about to change.”
“Good. I tell you, keep this up and you’ll be the next big supermodel for sure.”
I laughed. “Thanks. So what’d you call me about?”
Tina laughed. “Waiting for a special call or something?” she teased.
I snorted. “As if.” She knew I didn’t I have a boyfriend. Tina was my manager but since she was only seven years older than me, we’d bonded pretty quickly.
“I got you another job. Now, I know that it may not be as exciting as the Burberry shoot you just finished but you should have fun. A German band, Tokio Hotel, is looking for someone to pose in their new merchandise for their website. Not as glamorous but the band will be at the shoot overseeing things so you’ll get the meet them. The best news is that they specifically wanted you. Apparently one or some of them keep an eye on the fashion industry.”
“Awesome. I’m not sure I’ve heard of them but I can look them up on YouTube tonight. Where and when is the shoot?” I said.
“The shoot’s tomorrow afternoon at 1pm. Don’t be late. I’ll text the address you so you don’t forget. Now I have to run but I’ll see you in two days at the agency.”
“Okay. Thanks Tina. Bye.” I hung up.
I took my clothes and changed. I was both surprised and pleased. They specifically wanted me? That just doesn’t happen. Granted, my look was somewhat unique in the modeling world with my blue eyes and long blonde hair giving me a very Scandinavian look but I wasn’t that big yet. There were other models with bigger names than mine. After returning the clothes I’d worn for the photo shoot, I grabbed my purse, said my good-byes, and left.
The sky was getting dark when I stepped outside. This shoot had taken most of the day because they had me model a few different outfits. Even though I was kind of tired, I decided to pick up dinner before I went back to my empty apartment. I was hungry and decided to just go to this nice café that was only a few blocks from where I lived.
I ordered a sandwich and some water before sitting down, deciding to get a hot chocolate or tea on y way out. It wasn’t long before my number was called and soon I was feasting on a delicious ham sandwich while I people-watched. I’d always found it interesting to just sit somewhere and watch the people that came and went.
I stood when I’d finished my sandwich and left, heading for the Starbucks a block or so away where I picked up a hot chocolate. I’d just turned to leave the place when I collided with someone, pouring my drink all over them.
“Scheiβe!” a man’s voice exclaimed as hot chocolate went all over his shirt.
“I’m so sorry!” I apologized, not really knowing what to do. I looked up to see a man with black cornrows looking down at me with a pissed off expression on his face.
