"What's your poison?" the bartender asked briskly
"Just a coke" I spat through gritted teeth. My hands were balled into fists and my body was shivering yet sweating at the same time.
"Hey are you okay?" he asked sharply
I nodded as best I can "Please, can you just get me a coke?" I asked, annoyance clear in my voice. He nodded and pulled a cup out from under the bar. He put the glass under one of the drink nozzles and began to pull the fake gold lever down to release the liquid. Before he finished he accidentally dropped the cup and it smashed. The sound splintered through my head.
"Ah crap" he exclaimed and bent down to pick up the, now broken, glass. I couldn't exactly see what happened next, but even the smell of alcohol couldn't mask the pungent smell of blood that filled the bar.
"Run" I exclaimed in a voice that barely seemed human and sounded more like a growl.
"What?" he asked as he stood up, his hand bleeding. I couldn't hold my breath any longer. The second I inhaled my body swang into an attack stance.
"What the hell?" he questioned. I reached across the bar violently and slammed his head into the bar. He immediately fell unconscious. Before I could stop myself, or even think about what I was doing, I was at his neck pressing my razor sharp fangs into his soft skin. Blood began oozing out of the wound into my mouth. I moaned instinctively as everything that I had ever cared about slipped away, and all there was, was this. The sound of the bartenders heart slowing, the temporary high from the blood, the pure animal instinct of feeding. His heart came to a stop and my fangs retracted back into the roof of my mouth.
Tears poured out of my eyes as I looked back to the bartender. He was so young. He probably had a mother, a father, maybe even a sister or a brother. What I had done, was truly evil. I was just so thirsty. I had run out of blood bags and I had planned on meeting a supplier her but he never showed up.
"Hm I see you still can't come to terms with what you are" a voice announced. My head snapped up at the sound of the intruder's voice. I would know that voice anywhere. He was wearing a long, dark coat and a black fedora. I could barely see his face.
"Shade" I said, my voice hollow. I backed away from the bartender's body and down the length of the bar. No. How did he find me? A sound at the door caught my attention. It wasn't just Shade. He'd brought three of his vampires. I had to go; now.
"Don't run, it will be better if you don't" he whispered sympathetically. Something I had learned a long time ago about Shade was that he was a very good actor. If he had to he could probably talk his way out of hell. I backed up some more. There was only one option; I was going to have to shift. I took in a deep breath. As I began willing my body to change a sharp pain erupted in my knees. It travelled up to my stomach and then into my hands. Ugh it hurt. My feet fell out from underneath me as my bones began cracking and reshaping themselves.
"Grab her" Shade commanded. His vamps did as he said and were about to restrain me, but Shade was too late. The change was nearly over and when it was, his vampires, would have no chance.
The pain faded away and I knew that it was over. I let out a fearsome roar and the men stepped back a little. Now it was my turn. I lunged at the vamp closest to me, my teeth landing in his neck. Blood poured out onto my white fur which only made me wilder. There was a loud crunching sound as I bit down on his neck and his spine shattered. Two vamps came at me while I was busy with the first. I flung around and lunged at their chests methodically ripping out both of their hearts.
The last one had fled and it was just me and Shade. He looked down at his mutilated vampires and looked back up to me with fury in his eyes. We began circling each other. It was hard to think in my wolf form. But I didn't really need to. Everything became instinctual and heightened. Shade feigned left and I did the same. Before I had realised he hadn't moved left there was a sharp stabbing pain in my right shoulder. I howled in pain as Shade's venom seeped into my blood. I hit him hard with my paw and he fell to the ground. Ugh the venom hurt so much.
He chuckled "Don't you know you can't beat me, you never will. You'll never stop running, if not from me, than from yourself" he said with a hint of a smile in his voice. Well at least that's what I think he'd said. The venom was working fast and dulling all of my senses. It wouldn't kill me but it sure would knock me out for a while. I had to go; now. I let out one last growl and charged through the back door of the bar. All my senses were dulled because of the venom and I couldn't really tell where I was. All I knew was that I was in the middle of nowhere, on a road, surrounded by forest. It didn't matter. Not seeing which way, I began running. I had to get away. I didn't know where I was going but anywhere was better than this. I forced my legs to run faster than they ever had. My breath came out in loud huffs.
It wasn't long before the venom had taken full affect and I couldn't even stand anymore. My eyes began drooping. I tried to force myself to get up, but I just couldn't. I whined at the thought of being helpless. If Shade found me I would be completely defenceless against him. That's how it had always been. My eyes snapped shut as my body gave into the effects of the venom.
The water looked so dirty. It was a gross colour. It seemed fitting. It was just as disgusting as me. I ran my hand over the cold, hard metal of the one hundred kilo weight. The street lamp above me flickered a little, making the night seem more morose than usual. This was the right thing to do. I kept telling myself that; over and over again. I gulped in a large breath of air. It would be the last one I would ever take. This was the right thing to do. It was.
I picked the weight up and held it to my chest. For my mother and father who were now dead
"You don't have to do that you know" a voice behind me said. It startled me so much I nearly slipped off of the ledge of the bridge. I turned around only to see a man in a long coat and a fedora. I inhaled. His scent was strange, not like normal vampires. He smelled dead, but not in the way other vampires did. It was like he had been embalmed or something.
"Who are you?" I asked curiously
"I'm a friend" he said plainly and smiled sympathetically "And I can help you with your little problem"
"You don't know anything about me" I challenged
"I know that you've been leaving a trail of bodies from Idaho to here. I know that you can't control yourself. And I know what you are" he said. His last words froze me. If he really knew he wouldn't be here. I had tried reaching out to the vampires long ago, but they rejected me as one of their kind.
"What do you want?" I asked defensively
"To offer you my help. You don't have to be a murderer, you don't have to kill when you feed. It takes time but I can teach you. You may not trust me, but I only want to help you. But I will understand if you refuse, after all, even I know the 'thrill' of taking a human life" he explained. What if he was lying? Why would he do this for me? Although his offer did seem interesting. It would be great to not have to kill.
He must have mistook my silence for refusal and began to turn around
"Wait" I called out
I gasped awake, my heart racing. I was surrounded by wolves. There was at least five. I wasn't in my wolf form anymore, I must have shifted back when I was asleep. I quickly covered my private parts self-consciously and began shaking. This was it. This was how I was going to die. These werewolves were going to rip me apart.
Like a mirage I heard footsteps. Footsteps? No that couldn't be real. I looked up to where the sound was coming from. For a second I thought that I had laid eyes on an angel, come to save me from these monsters. He was beyond words. But then I realised, he was one of them. A werewolf. His eyes widened at the sight of me, his nostrils flaring. His knees fell out from beneath him
"Mate" he growled
