I growled as he approached, my arms tightening around my naked body. If he made a move I would end him, no matter how beautiful he was. He stopped in his tracks as my growl reached him, confusion clear in his eyes.
"I won't hurt you?" he said sympathetically. I looked around at the other wolves. He might not hurt me, but he never said anything about them
He saw this "It's okay, she's not a threat" he commanded. They all nodded and faded back into the trees leaving just me and him. He must have been high up in the pack, an Alpha maybe. He grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head, revealing a chest that looked like it had been chiselled by Michael Angelo himself. I panicked as he did this.
"Here, put this on" he explained and threw it to me. It landed next to me. I grabbed it swiftly and pulled it over myself. The smell that clung to it was heavenly; like smoke and flowers. It made me moan. The man's eyes flickered black as he struggled to control himself.
I shook my head to clear it of disgusting thoughts. This was all so strange. I'd heard story about the mate bond, but none of them could have prepared me for all these sensations. I wasn't even supposed to have a mate, after all I did have vampire blood inside of me. The man began advancing, I shuffled back. The closer he came the harder it became to think properly.
"Please, just stop" I pleaded
"It's okay" he rebut and made no effort to slow his advance. It was like fighting a war within myself; my body told me to go to him, but my mind knew that no good would come of it.
He was very close now. I avoided his penetrating gaze. The next thing he did was very unexpected; he sat next to me and waited. What was he waiting for?
"What's your name?" he asked huskily
I hesitated "Lily" I mumbled. He smiled at this. Did he think my name was funny or something?
"Lily, a beautiful name for a beautiful girl" he remarked
"What's your name?
"My name is Tobias, but everyone calls me Toby" he replied joyously. This whole situation made me so confused. How was it possible that I was destined for this man? He was so good, so wholesome. And I was the opposite.
"Maybe we should go somewhere a little warmer" he suggested. I thought this over. If he took me back to his pack there was a chance someone would figure out what I am, but if he let me go Shade could find me. I barely even knew where I was. What's the worst that could happen if he found out? He would kick me out, maybe reject me as his mate. My heart throbbed at that thought.
I slowly nodded and stood up. The shirt only came to above my knees. Tobias smiled and followed my lead, standing up in one graceful move. His eyes were a beautiful shade of brown the same colour as his hair, his skin was a light olive tone, oh and his chest, don't even get me started on that. He caught me looking at him, I quickly looked away but not before seeing him smirk.
"Like what you see?" he asked
"Let's just go" I said and began walking to the east
He chuckled "My pack is actually this way" he informed me and pointed to the north. I stopped and turned around, storming past him into the direction he pointed out. Ugh this was all so confusing. I hadn't felt like this in so long, not since . . . I quickly stopped that thought before it emerged. I couldn't think about that. It would just bring me pain.
We walked in silence for what seemed like half an hour. I didn't have anything to say to him, and he knew that. I knew we had arrived when an assembly of voices reached me. The trees broke away and dozens of houses could be seen. Wow. I'd never been in a pack before, and certainly not one this size. I looked up at Tobias, his eyes analysing my expression
"Welcome to Tala Ridge" he announced and began walking again. I quickly followed after him. There were people here and there, mothers watching over their children as they played, men cutting wood with axes and women planting flowers, and they all looked at me with curiosity as we passed by them. They must not get many strangers passing through here. This place was amazing. And in the middle of it all was a house that looked like a mansion. It towered above all the others.
"This place is amazing" I whispered. The house was so tall and it only seemed bigger and bigger the closer we got. The outside was red and I couldn't tell what colour the roof was. There were two men standing out the front arguing
"It's not my fault!" the blonde one yelled
"Well you're the one who was standing watch" the brunette lunged at him and knocked him to the ground. Tobias acted immediately pulling the brunette off of the blonde. The blonde got up and I acted quickly, restraining him
"It's all your fault" the brunette yelled trying to escape Tobias' grasp. The blonde stopped struggling against my grip, so I let him go
"Get out of here Felix" Tobias yelled. Felix nodded and bolted for it.
"No! Why did you let him go! He needs to pay!" the brunette yelled. Tobias wrapped his muscly arms around his neck and in a couple minutes he was out like a light. He let him sag to the ground, then looked at me confidently.
"Come, I'll show you to your room" he said and reached out for me. I nodded, still a little confused, and walked past him, up the stairs of the huge house. The brunette was still on the ground. What had happened to make him so angry? Tobias placed a hand on the small of my back, my back became tense as he did this, but eventually relaxed into his touch. I didn't mean to, it was just a reflex I had developed over the years. It was so strange to have someone putting their hands on me in a loving way again. It hadn't been like that for so long. I'd been living off of one night stands for years, and they'd always felt so hollow and meaningless. But when Tobias touched me, I could feel how much he cared.
Tobias yanked on the huge wooden door, his muscles stretching, and it swung open easily. Smells and sounds flooded my ears and nose. There were faint hints of leather, and flowers followed by a strong smell of werewolf. There must have been at least a hundred inside. My refined ears picked up sounds of chatter and televisions.
We both walked in. I gasped. The inside was so beautiful. The reception area was so big and cosy. It was a pleasant mix between gothic and modern. The stair case looked like it belonged in a different century whereas the couches and furniture were clearly more contemporary. I loved it.
"You like?" Tobias asked coyly
I nodded excitedly "I like" I replied and quickly walked over to the staircase, running my hand over the smooth mahogany. I quickly glided up the stairs to the upper level. I heard Tobias chuckle at me, but I didn't mind. This place was amazing, and it was bringing out my adventurous side. It didn't take long for me to reach the end of the stairs only to be met by two rows of TARDIS blue doors. This must have been where everyone lived. Before I realised he was there, Tobias' arms wrapped around me from behind. My skin tingled crazily. He bent his head down to the crook of my neck and inhaled deeply. Butterflies fluttered like a tornado.
I quickly pulled away from him in the hopes I wouldn't do something I would later regret. I decided to change the subject
"So what was that about earlier, out the front?" I asked curiously
"Last night, Tom's mate was killed. He blames Felix because he was the one standing watch when it happened" he explained. My blood ran cold.
"H-how was she killed?" I asked desperately. I had to know
"A vampire" he replied
