"W-what do you want?" I stuttered, the fear clear in my voice
"What I've always wanted; you" he stated, a hint of desperation in his voice. He walked up to me gently and brought his hand up to my cheek. I exhaled deeply. It had been so long since I'd felt his touch. He slowly lowered his face to mine. I pulled away from him suddenly before he could kiss me.
I shook my head "Too bad" I whispered
"Now, now, you of all people know how angry I can get when I don't get my own way. I just might go on a murdering spree in your new little town" he warned. Before I could say anything his head snapped to the left. He inhaled deeply and chuckled.
"You can come out, little wolf" he called out. I inhaled, but immediately wish I hadn't. Tobias. Before I could react he stepped out from behind a tree.
"Lily?" Tobias questioned
"No, you can't be here. Run, please" I demanded frantically. He made no move to leave. No, this couldn't be happening. Shade would kill him.
"Shade please, don't hurt him" I turned to Shade and begged. He looked at me thoughtfully and then to Tobias. His eyes widened with shock, and then filled with anger. A low growl rumbled in his chest. Before I could stop him he grabbed me by the neck and pushed me up against the tree.
Tobias made to attack him "No" I wheezed "He'll kill you"
"Let her go" Tobias growled, his eyes darkening, but stayed where he was
"How dare you choose him" Shade spat venomously
"Who the hell are you?" Tobias demanded
Shade chuckled "You didn't tell him about me, what else haven't you told him?" he asked and released me. I fell to my knees and heaved for breath. This couldn't be happening. Tobias knelt down next to me and helped me to my feet.
Shade chuckled even louder this time "He has no idea does he?" Shade probed. This time I was the one that growled. He'd better stop right there. I couldn't lose Tobias because he knew I was a hybrid. It would hurt me too much.
"Lily, what is he talking about?" Tobias asked
I shook my head "I don't know" I lied. Tobias pushed me behind his back defensively, away from Shade.
Shade instantly saw this and hissed "Get your hand off her, or I'll remove it" he threatened darkly. I tried to pull away from Tobias' touch, but he kept his grip on me. Shade moved forward, his stance threatening.
"Stay away from her" Tobias growled. Shade scowled and bared his fangs, but stopped suddenly, his body going tense. Before I could comprehend what was happening he shrieked in pain. The sun. Shade backed away into the darkness
"This isn't over" he yelled, turned and ran, leaving Tobias and I alone. After minutes of silence, I decided to speak
"Tobias" I whispered in an apologetic tone
"Don't" he replied and pulled me as he began walking back to the pack. I didn't struggle against his grip. He had a right to be angry at me. From the second he had met me I had lied to him about everything, and he was finally starting to understand that.
"Who was he?" Tobias asked, confusion clear in his voice
"A monster" I whispered
"He . . . He said he wanted you. Why?"
I shook my head "I don't know"
Tobias stood up and, as quick as lightening, picked the lamp up off of his night stand and flung it into the wall, smashing it to pieces "Don't lie to me!" he boomed, anger resonating from his voice. I flinched as he did this.
