annie
37 texts. 12 calls. 8 snapchats. all were left unopened and ignored. i wasn't sure where jayden was. she had been mia ever since she left the mall.
i knew she was hurt, but i couldn't figure out why.
"hey annie, you okay?" asher pulled me out of my midday thoughts with a light brush of my cheek.
"o-oh, uhm, yeah." i looked down and picked at my fresh manicure. anything to avoid asher's gaze.
he left about an hour later, much to my delight. i didn't know why i had been so tired of him lately. i just wish he could give me some space.
ever since hayden and i had broken up, jayden was really the only person i wanted to be around.
and she wasn't here.
-
"hello?" my breath caught in my throat. she had picked up. like, actually saw my name and picked up the phone.
"hi," i said, my voice edging on relieved. "i miss you."
"yeah, well.." she trailed off. i wish i could see her to try and figure out what she was thinking.
"jayden?"
"yea, annie."
"i love you. i miss you. you're my best friend." i hoped, desperately hoped that she would let down her guard for just a minute.
"i- i miss you too." she sniffed, almost as if she was crying.
"i'm sorry. i'm so freaking sorry." i heard her let out a sob and wanted nothing more than to hold her. "do you.. i'm going to new york this weekend. do you maybe wanna come with me?"
she didn't say anything. i thought she might've hung up.
"jay?"
"yes. i'll come."
and it gave me a little bit of hope that whatever this was, we might be able to fix this.
