On Halloween my friends and I decided to go to this Halloween festival that was happening in our town. We planned on meeting up at the nearby park, then walking together to the festival.

My phone buzzed as I received a text from Mark, my best friend from my high school. "Hey, what are you dressing up as?"

"A clown." I texted a response.

"Nice, I'm going as the Grim Reaper."

"Cool! Well, I need to get ready, see you at the park."

"Ok, see you then."

I slipped into my costume and headed out the door to meet up with my friends.

I found Mark waiting for me along with our other friend, Oliver. Oliver dressed as Chucky. Once we were all together we walked over to the festival to begin our night of scares.

At the festival there were many Halloween related tents and stands that we could visit. There were stands that sold Halloween themed treats and candy, one even had ghost shaped rice crispy treats and cake balls that looked like eyeballs. Another tent sold costume items like capes, fake swords and wigs.

The festival also had multiple haunted houses that my friends and I walked through. By the time we had been to most of the places at the festival it was going on midnight. Since it was getting late we decided to pick one more place to visit. Mark chose the fortune teller tent.

The tent was purple with fairy lights along the edges of the entrance. The three of us walked inside to find a woman sitting in the center of the tent with a table in front of her. The inside of the tent was decorated with shelves of books, lit candles in random places, more fairy lights and a single crystal ball sat in the center of the table.

"Ah. Welcome, handsome, young men." The woman greeted.

"Hello." Oliver replied.

"Very polite I see." The woman complimented. "Come, don't be shy, take a seat." She pointed to a few bean bag chairs that were placed near the table, which I hadn't seen before. The three of us sat down in the bean bag chairs and waited to begin the session.

"Are you a witch?" Oliver asked randomly.

"Good question. I guess you can say that." She smiled.

"Nice, so you do magic then?" Oliver continued.

"That's correct."

"Magic isn't real, its just an illusion." Mark stated his opinion.

The Witch's smile disappeared. "Well, in that case, you can leave. This place isn't for people who don't believe."

"Fine, whatever." Mark stood up, "I'll see you guys when you're done." He then exited the tent.

"Alright, shall we get started?" the woman's smile returned.

"Yes, please." Oliver said excitedly.

I just nodded my head.

"Ok, who wants to go first?"

"I will!" Oliver raised his hand.

"Come here and place your hands on the table, one on either side of the crystal ball with your palms up." The witch told him.

Oliver moved closer and did exactly as he was instructed to do.

"What is your name, young man?"

"Oliver."

"Alright, Oliver, now close your eyes."

Oliver closed his eyes; the witch closed her eyes as well and began to whisper words I couldn't understand then she drew circles on his palms with her fingertips. Next, she began repeating the same words that she started with while she waved her hands over the crystal ball.
