I stayed the night in the hospital with Faith. We stayed up most of the night talking. I woke up early and grabbed her some breakfast. Today was a big day. Alex would be meeting my birth mother. Faith was still asleep. I set her food on her stand beside her bed. I smiled at her before kissing her cheek, then leaving.
On the drive to Vic's all I could think of was all the negative outcomes of this meeting. I don't know her. Everything could go wrong and I could even have to restart my life with her. When I got to Vic's, I got out and went inside. The house was quiet meaning that everyone was asleep. I went to Alex's room and woke him up. After I showered and got changed, there was a knock at my door.
"Good luck today. I hope everything goes well," Jace said with a soft smile. I smiled back and ruffled his hair.
"Thanks kid. Do good on your school work. I'll see you at the hospital tonight," I said before closing the door. I grabbed my phone and wallet and put them in my pocket.
I walked quietly downstairs and to the kitchen. I didn't have an appetite. I sat at the counter and watch Danielle cook breakfast. She turned around and smiled at me. I nodded to her before going through my phone, waiting on Alex to be ready.
"Are you going to be alright?" She asked me. I shrugged and looked up at her. "You do know that everything will be okay. Alex won't let anything bad happen. If they do end up fighting, Vic and I will be here for you. We won't let you go through this alone. I promise." I smiled softly at what she had said.
"Thanks Danielle. May I have a drink?" I asked.
"Of course. We have coffee, water, energy drinks, spark..." I cut her off.
"Not to be rude, but I meant something alcoholic. I know in America you have to be 21 but in Essex it's 16. If not that's fine. I'll just sober this one out," I explained. She chuckled softly and walked around the counter to me.
"I'm sorry dear. I would rather wait till Alex gives me the right to, or when you are legally allowed to in the states. Trust me I would, but Jace and Faith will wait till they are 21," She said rubbing my back.
"Right. Sorry for asking," I said with an awkward smile. Danielle gave me a soft hug.
"No worries," She said. She walked back to the stove to finish cooking. I turned my head to see Alex walk out toward me. I sighed softly and got up, grabbing the keys by the door. I said nothing and neither did Alex. We went to the car and started driving to a small coffee house to meet my mum. When we arrived, my mum was sitting on the patio waiting. We walked to her slowly. When she noticed us, she stood and gave me a big hug.
"Mary... um...mum...This is Alex, my dad. The one that adopted me. Dad, this is my birth mum Mary," I said taking a step back. Alex stuck out and hand and Mary shook it.
"Nice to finally meet you," Alex said with a smile.
"You as well! I've done some research. You seem like such a nice man to raise Jackson," She said. "Please sit." So we did. I sat in the middle just in case things turned bad.
"So Mary...Can you explain to me why you have decided to get in touch with Jackson?" Alex asked. My mum tucked some hair behind her ear and took a deep breath before speaking.
"Honestly, about a week or so after giving Jackson up, I regretted it, but at the time I couldn't have done it on my own. His birth father had cancer and I was a teen and pregnant. I just couldn't have raised him on my own. My mum wanted me to get an abortion, but I said no, so instead I gave him up. I never could work up the nerve to get in contact with Jackson. Well, when I did, I went up to the center and they had told me that you had adopted him. For months I tried to find a way to contact you, and I finally did. It was really now or never," She explained. She looked at me and placed a hand on my thigh. "You don't have to consider me your mum. You don't have to even welcome me back into your life. I just felt that I had to give you some kind of reason and explanation. I would like for you to think on it. And Alex, I'm sorry for impeding on your family like this. I honestly have a boyfriend that wants to get married and start a family, but I don't think I could do it without my first born being apart of it, or even knowing that it's not his fault."
I sat there quietly, not knowing what to say. I didn't look at either of them. I got up and walked inside the coffeehouse to get me a cup of coffee. The smell of the building made me smile. It was like it knew that I needed to get away. Once I got my cup of coffee, I took a deep breath before going back outside. My mum and Alex were laughing. I stood there watching for a moment. I soon walked over and sat back down.
"I'm sorry, kid. We were just talking about what the best thing for us would be, and your mom showed me pictures of when you were first born, before you went to the orphanage," Alex explained. I couldn't help but smile at them.
"So what did you two come up with?" I asked. My mum sat up with a wide grin.
"I'll pay for all your flights to Essex. You can come visit me whenever you'd like. I must call or text you four to five times a week in order to stay in your life. The first two visits to Essex will be supervised by Alex," She explained. I looked at Alex and smiled.
"Thanks dad," I said, standing up. I looked at my watch. "Oh. I have time to go help Jace with his homework before we go see Faith." Alex and my mum shared a look.
"I'll just meet you there. I think we are gonna catch up on things she's missed," Alex said. I chuckled softly and gave them both a hug before leaving.
******************SKIP****************
After helping Jace with his homework, him and I got into the car and drove to the hospital. Once we entered the hospital, Jace ran like a kid in a candy store to Faith's room. I walked, apologizing to every person he almost ran into. When I got to Faith's room, I stood in the doorway. A perfect family photo that needed to be taken. Faith laid on her bed asleep, Jace on the bed at her feet watching her, Vic and Danielle holding either of her hands.
"Get your butt in here," Danielle said, smiling. I walked in and sat on the edge of her bed beside Jace. When I sat, Faith's eyes fluttered open. When she noticed us sitting around her, she started to cry. Vic reached up and wiped her face.
"Now don't do that. You're gonna make me cry and I know Danielle has an ugly cry," He joked. Danielle playfully hit him. Faith laughed softly.
"I know, I'm sorry. I just realized how much I love you all. That's all," She said softly. The rest of the afternoon was spent with her. The rest of Pierce the Veil came in later that night to check in with her. When it was getting late, Vic, Danielle, and Jace headed home. I spent another night with her.
"We will get through this together one day at a time. I promise," I said. She kissed me goodnight before dozing off. We were both laying in the bed cuddled up. I'll always be here I promise...
