Jay walked to his next class, hearing a few whispers as he passed the students. He was going to put on his headphones, then remembered that they were confiscated. He looked at his schedule and saw that he had gym next.

As he walked through the hallway, he spotted a poster of the musical. It was different than the one that he and his friends saw when they entered school.

The poster showed a man on top of piled pieces of furniture waving a red flag. Other men and women surrounded him. He looked at it when he heard someone speak to him.

"What are you looking at?" Jay turned his head, seeing Carlos and Evie.

"Just looking at the poster," He replied. "Did you get lost?"

"No," Evie replied, "I was just looking around,"

"Me too," Carlos said, then pointed back at the poster. "But isn't this a musical,"

"Yeah, that what they said in homeroom,"

"It's actually really interesting," An unfamiliar voice said. They looked to see the voice came from a girl behind them. She looked Chinese, wearing a bright pink sweater and blue jeans.

"And you are?" Evie asked.

"Hi, I'm Lonnie!" The girl eagerly said. She held out her hand, waiting for a handshake. The three didn't do so, and Lonnie let out a small chuckle. "So, are you the new kids?"

"Yup," Jay simply replied.

"I'm so sorry to intrude your conversation, but this musical is one of my favorites,"

"What's so special about it?"

"It's actually a deeper story."

"Really?" Evie asked in surprise

"Yeah. The title, Les Misérables, really means 'the miserable ones' or sometimes 'the wretched ones' depending on the translation,"

"What's it about?" Carlos questioned

"It all starts with this man being released from prison," Lonnie explains, "Jean Valjean, for twenty years,"

"What'd he do?"

"He stole a loaf of bread."

"Twenty years for that?"

"He was sentenced for 5 years, and the other 15 years was because he tried to escape."

"What else can you tell us?"

"He runs away from his parole and he's chased by Inspector Javert. Meanwhile, the life of a working-class girl, Fantine, with a child is at a turning point in her life. When she lost her job, she shaves her hair and two of her teeth in exchange for money,  then later turns to prostitution to pay money to the evil innkeeper and his wife who look after her child, Cosette."

"Fantine must really care about her,"

"She does, but the masters of the house, the Thénardier's, abuse Cosette, making her a servant,"

"Then what?"

"Back to Jean Valjean, he promises Fantine to take care of the child after she unfortunately dies. That leads to a love triangle a few years later between Cosette, Marius who is a student of the rebellion, and Eponine, a girl of the streets and the daughter of the Thénardier's. Meanwhile, the people sing of their anger and Enjolras, the leader of the main rebels in the book and play, leads the students to fight upon the barricades."

"And all of that is one story?" Carlos asked.

"Well, first it was a book published in 1862, then it was adapted to a musical in 1980. It was also adapted into a few movies as well,"

"You've read the book?" Jay asked. Before Lonnie could answer, the bell rang.

"I should get going," she quickly said. "I'm actually choreography the show. Auditions are coming up if you all are interested."

"What makes you think that were interested in a musical?" Jay asked.

"Because you kept asking questions about a book that came out over a hundred years ago."

The three didn't say another word, while Lonnie walked off to her next class. Jay looked back at the poster, as did Evie and Carlos.

"Let's have a movie night,"
