I could feel my back rip, my eyesight went black, and soon changed into what people sometimes described vampire eyesight to be. My hair turned blue, a bow appeared on top of my head. I could feel nakedness for a fraction of a second, and it was replaces by a short blue dress the same color as my now short hair. I knew, as I should, my eyes were blue, darker than both my hair and my dress. I was wrapped in a light blue ribbon, except for my fluffy white wings.
"Jonai."I whispered, I jumped and took off, my wings extended and I could feel my twin waking up.
'Welcome home' I whispered to her in my mind.
'Thank you, Sister Nellian.'Her metallic voice sighed happily.'It's been awhile,'she added.
'It has,'I replied, soaring down and changing back to human about 10 feet from the ground. The cottage was better looking then ever, it's chesnut walls and shuttered windows, covered by hickory vines. The small flower garden was in full bloom, along with the cherry tree. I took a moment to admire, before I heard footfalls a mile or so away.
I walked up the stone pathway, the limestone making sounds against my boots, and quietly knocked on the door. 'Granma' automatically came to the door, her face alight. "Nella!"The old woman cried. Her green dress stopped at her knees, where she had a small scrach. Her lips were a light pink, that matched her flats. The necklace she wore was a family heir loom; A single golden petal that had an angel in the middle.
"Ama,"I smiled hugging her. Her wavy silver hair was slighty tangled, and I quickly ushered her inside.
"So, why'd you come to visit lil' ole me?"She asked winking, her green eyes lighting up.
"Trouble,"I said, looking out the window.
Then, I spent 5 minutes telling her everything that happened this morning.
"Ah. I see."She said, her brow wrinkling when she smiled.
"Ama?"I said, confused.
"Oh dear!"She said beaming like she won the lottery,"Take this."She took her necklace off, and handed to me.
"Ama..."I said, breathless,"I can't... I know how much it means to you..."I said, my eyes wide. She tsked and forced it into my hands.
"Just take it,"She ordered,"you need it far more then I do." Quickly she put it around my neck, and giggled like a child."You look beautiful."She said with a genuine look of admiration.
"Now go,"She said, pushing me out the door.
"But...Ama, they're still out here."I said, staring at her.
"You'll be fine."She said winking like she knew all there was to know.
I started to walk away, but I couldn't help but glancing back every few feet.
"Wait,"The old woman tsked herself and went on,"Tell Jake I said hi from grammy."
"Wait.."I said, narrowing my eyes,"You know them?
"Course,"she said her smile fading,"I taught them back before I move here."
"Oh..."I said walking away,"Bye Ama."She waved, smiling yet again.
I walked back to where I first saw the boys, and saw the blonde. He tensed when I came back, his eyes scanning for some invisible weapon.
"Are you Jake?"I said sitting, my back leaned again a tree trunk.
He hesitated for a moment and nodded. I got up and slowly walked up to him, stopping when I was next to him.
I leaned over so I could whisper in his ear and said,"Grammy says hi."
I quietly walked away, my boots making no sound against the mud and dirt. It was sunny out now, the only traces of rain the gray clouds receding and the patches off mud here and there. I pulled my top up, since I didn't have my jacket I was shivering. I heard a beat of wings overhead and looked up. And eagle was flying, not alone but side by side with a boy. A very familar boy, I added to myself. The boy quickly fluttered down to his friend, Jake.
Watching me walk away, he quickly punched the other boy lightly in the arm. Jake saw me, and said something to the other boy. I caught one word. One name.
Shaun.
