The only sound that floated through the small bakery was the swish that the wet rag made as the small brunette woman wiped off all the tables, absentmindedly looking out the glass front of the store at the darkness that had settled over the Boston suburb. She loved owning her own shop but on long days like this, she was happy to close and go home. Fate seemed to have a different plan for her that night though and when the bell rang, signifying someone walking in, she turned around.
"Well if it isn't Christopher Robert Evans," She smirked while leaning up against one of the tables.
"Andrea Jane Callahan," His lips twitched into a grin that his thick beard couldn't hide.
"Of all the bakery joints, in all the towns, in all the world, you walk into mine," Andie crossed her arms in front of her chest with a teasing smile.
Chris tipped his head back and let out his familiar boisterous laugh as he slapped a hand to his muscular chest before saying, "I shouldn't be surprised that you're quoting Casablanca."
"No you really shouldn't," She replied, tossing her dirty rag on the table.
When Andie went to go on speaking, Chris held up his hand, telling her to stop. She was confused at first but he held his arms open and said, "I can't go any longer without a hug."
"You big dork," She laughed while walking into his arms and letting him wrap her up in a big bear hug.
"I can't help it Andie, you give the best hugs ever," Chris chuckled. "But don't tell my mom that or she'll be upset."
Andie just laughed before asking, "So what brings you here?"
"Well I just finished filming a movie so I'm home for a while," He shrugged. "I got here this morning and was with my mom all day but I was just going home and figured I didn't have anything else to do so I'd stop in and see you."
"Charming," Andie retorted at his choice of words.
"Aw c'mon you know I'm just teasing," Chris laughed while tossing an arm around her small shoulders.
"Let's go get a slice of pizza or something.""You expect me just to drop everything just because you're back? Who says I don't have plans?" She couldn't help but tease him even though her small grin gave her away.
He just sent her a knowing look, causing them both to laugh before she leaned into his frame and put an arm around his waist, giving into him. After locking up the shop, the two walked down the street until they found their favorite pizza place and each got a slice before sitting down at a table.
"So how've you been Andie? It's been what? Six months since I've seen you?" Chris started.
"Yeah, Christmas," She nodded.
"That was the last time I was home," Chris replied. "It's so good to be back."
"You know I hate to say this because I know it'll pump up your ego, but I missed you," Andie told him.
Chris put his large hand over Andie's slender one and leaned in closer but then got a goofy grin on his lips as he asked, "What was that? I couldn't hear you, could you say that again."
"Shut up!" Andie laughed while pushing at his bulky shoulder.
"I'm just teasing, I missed you too," Chris acknowledged. "Ever since we met in high school we've been so close then as I got more roles and was in LA more I didn't get to see you as much. I wish I could have been here to support you the past couple years with you opening the shop and everything the way you supported my acting. But I'm so thankful that I can come home and we can still be just as close as we've always been."
"I'll always be here for you Chris, you know that," She gave his hand a squeeze.
"You're wonderful," Chris smiled that grin that caused his blue eyes to light up.
Andie couldn't help but grin from his sweet words but then looked at her watch, "I really need to get going, I have to be up early to open the shop."
"Well I'll be sleeping in," He gave that lopsided smirk while he put his hands behind his head and leaned his hunk upper body back on the chair.
"Way to rub it in," Andie laughed as she slung her purse over her shoulder and got up.
Chris just shrugged, "I do what I can."
She lightly slapped his chest, causing him to laugh before he got up and enveloped her small frame in for a big long hug. Andie took in his musky scent and gave him a tight squeeze but neither one could deny that they didn't want to let go.
