the calm before

Jungkook sighs heavily as he looks away from Hoseok's peaceful face, meeting eyes with Taehyung who tries to give him a smile, but the alpha could see the guilt and sadness in his eyes.

Jimin sits quietly beside Taehyung, hugging his best friend as he leans his cheek against his chest. The latter welcomes the embrace, not having any intentions to move away sooner.

The alpha pats Taehyung's head and kisses Jimin on the cheek before whispering out that he needs to leave for work. His omega nods shortly and smiles reassuringly for Jungkook to leave before looking back at his best friend, who stares blankly at the alpha on the bed.

Taehyung doesn't even flinch when he hears the door slam shut.

"Taetae? Talk to me dear," Jimin softly says in a gentle tone, moving away to be on eye-level and nods a few times to reassure Taehyung when the latter slowly turns to look at him with teary eyes.

Taehyung breathes in deeply and lets out a shaky breath, willing his tears to go away but it doesn't work as he accidentally slips out a whimper, "It's m-my fault."

"Tae-ah."

"I could have explained to him the reasons but I didn't. I just d-didn't because I'm a fucking coward," Taehyung whispers, his voice cracking at the end as his tears start flowing down his cheeks.

The said male lets the tears free and looks down towards his lap. He smiles bitterly at nothing as Jimin interlocks their hands together as a form of comfort. Jimin leans his head against Taehyung's shoulder with a sigh, "But you love him, don't you Tae?"

"I'd never trade him for the entire galaxy."

"Then stay strong for him. Hyung would want that more than anything."

Taehyung softens at that and his eyes fluttered shut, nodding slowly, leaning his head against Jimin's who tightens his hand around Taehyung's, "I'll try."

Mingyu hums in satisfactory as he chews on the piece of meat in his mouth, doing a small celebratory dance as Jungkook sits in front of him with his own tray of food.

Jungkook quirks an eyebrow out of confusion, "What's with the exaggerated reaction?"

"I haven't eaten this for weeks, Jungkook-ah," Mingyu moans as he takes in another piece of meat into his mouth, humming happily as the latter rolls his eyes at him.

As Mingyu takes another piece of meat into his mouth and Jungkook starts chewing on his noodles, Mingyu's phone rings, indicating a call.

The father quirks an eyebrow when he reads the caller ID, and answers the call once he swallows, "Channie? What's up pup? You don't call me much-"

The once expression of bliss immediately drops.

Jungkook stops eating and straightens his back with a questioning look, as Mingyu becomes tensed by the growing seconds. He eventually growls out a, "I'll be there", and drops everything to run out of the cafeteria.

Jungkook doesn't hesitate to follow, after he makes sure a couple of handcuffs were in his possession.

And Jungkook doesn't question Mingyu when the latter drives them to the direction of Chan's school.
