The next day, Mom and I climbed out of the car and faced our new house.
It wasn't too shabby. It was one story, painted a cheerful pale yellow with light blue shutters. There was a stone path leading to the front door that was painted to match the shutters. There was a large oak tree in the front yard, keeping the front of the house nice and shady. I smiled lovingly at our new home. Then, my eyebrows furrowed and I looked at my mother. "I thought we got an apartment? I didn't know you had money saved up for a place so nice," I commented.
Mom ignored the question and headed down the front path, lugging two large cardboard boxes. I grabbed my suitcase and slung my school bag on my back before hurrying after her. She had stopped at the door, scrutinizing it as if looking for a way to open it without putting down the boxes. I laughed before pulling open the door for her. "Thanks," Mom said brightly before crossing the threshold and dropping the boxes in the foyer. I followed her in and looked around. The floors were made of light wood, though I could see that the living room next to it was covered in light blue carpet. The walls were a plain white, and it gave off the tell tale signs of being blank and empty with the lack of furniture.
"It's gorgeous, Mom!" I exclaimed, and she rolled her eyes. "Let's go look at the bedrooms," she suggested, and I nodded in agreement. I followed her through the empty living room and down a short hallway. There was a door gaping open, obviously a bathroom. There was three closed doors: One next to the bathroom, another across from it, and another on the north wall. I reached and opened the closest door, next to the bathroom. Inside the room was a faded blue, the carpet a slightly deeper blue. There was a small closet in the corner and one window.
"This will be my room if there isn't a bigger one," I said firmly, and Mom gave a light laugh. "Of course," she sighed, before we moved to the door across from this one. It was a large room with cream colored walls and a big window, along with another one on the right wall. There was also the open door of a walk-in closet. "Mine," I said immediately. "No," Mom said, and I glared at her. "Hey, I paid for it. I get to choose first," she said. "And this one's mine." I sighed in defeat and nodded before moving to the last room. I opened the door and smiled. It was widely spaced, just as much as the other room. There were two large closets, and a big window on the wall, overlooking the large oak tree.
The wall's were a blank white and the carpet the same blue as the rest. "Mine," I said confidently, and Mom smiled. "Yes, it's yours." I grinned and set my school bag and suitcase in the room before turning to her with a frown. "And now we unpack," I said solemnly. "And now we unpack," she echoed.

It took us all day to bring all our boxes into the house. The moving truck wasn't going to come until the next day, so that meant we had to go without beds. Theresa had told us that we could've stayed with her, but we had refused, deciding to spend our first night in the new house. As we sat on empty boxes and ate a dinner of chinese takeout, I finally said the question that had been on my mind for a while. "What's he like?" I blurted, and Mom gave me a questioning look. "What's who like?"
"Mitchell. Bella's fiancé," I said, taking a bite of an egg roll. "He's a sweetheart," Mom said cheerfully. "He plays the guitar very well, and he wants to be a music teacher. He is creative and funny and pretty much perfect for Bella." I nodded thoughtfully. I had only seen pictures of Mitchell, which was enough to know that he was an extremely handsome twenty year old with perfectly cut fair hair and a beach tan. He looked to be the opposite of Bella, but if I knew my sister she would never date someone who wasn't like her.
