I had a show to get ready for, it was already Thursday, I had to be there at least by Friday night to get my horses stalls, and I figured I would just sleep in the truck again. I looked at the flier again. The flier said there was going to be barrel racing, pole bending, calf roping, and some other events. There was also going to be bull and bronc riding. I was going to enter the bronc riding this year.
I went out to the barn, Bo right on my heels; since the rodeo was in Alabama I would have to be leaving soon. I had pulled out the two horse trailer and it was already hitched up to my truck. I let the horses run in the pasture for the day while I loaded up all the tack. Both of them had their own show saddle. Cowboys was a black saddle with silver lining on it the saddle also has a horse shoe on the back of it, his blanket was a basic black one. His bridle was completely black, with little bits of silver through his brow band.
Night’s bridle saddle is brown with silver trim and a black seat, his bridle is the same design as Cowboy’s but it is brown.
I lugged their saddles to the truck and up them in the back seat, I went back to get their bridles and some brushes from the office/tack room. I threw them in the back seat; I also grabbed a bag of feed and closed the door. I grabbed the hay nets that I had filled earlier and strung them up in the trailer.
I grabbed my black lead ropes and went out to the pasture. I whistled to the horses and they ran up to me. I clipped the lead onto Cowboys halter and led him to the trailer. I loaded him and went back to get night. he was always the harder one to load. I got him in pretty easily, there usually had to be another horse in the trailer for him to load. I tied the two of them off with a slip knot, and stepped out of the trailer. I closed and locked the doors.
I walked up to the front of the trailer and whistled to Bo, he came runnin from the woods. I opened the passenger door and he jumped in. I went around and got in the driver’s side. I started the engine and turned on the wireless monitor, I had a camera hooked up in the trailer. The image of my two horses popped up on the screen, Cowboy had his head down and was asleep, where as Night on the other hand was fully awake and buzzing with energy.
I put the truck in drive and pulled out of my drive way, I went down the highway and continued driving to the peanut fair grounds.
“Loud” by big and rich came on the radio.
“Listen up shout it out, in the house Stomp your feet, clap your hands come on kick it with the band,” I sang at the top of my lungs, “We're all about tradition, we don’t mind the twang! We've got just one condition now…”
I sang this part even louder and I turned up the radio at it, “We like it loud, we like it honkin'! The party won’t be revin' till we crank it to eleven Get it rockin' our boots are knockin' we’re gonna say it proud, we like our country and we like it loud!”
The song played on and I kept singin along to it. Suddenly I heard my phone ring, dang I was just getting pumped up… I turned the radio on and answered it
“Hello, this is Alex speaking,” I said into the phone.
“Hey Alex its Hunter,” a boy said on the other line.
“Hey Hunt, what’s up?” I smiled at his nick name; in our small group of friends we all had some kind of nickname.
“Nothing really, gettin ready to head to the rodeo, you goin?”
“You bet your top dollar I am!” I laughed.
“Haha no doubt you are, you wouldn’t miss this for the world. Are you doing the bronc riding this year?” he asked
“Yep, I entered in barrel racing and pole bending with both my horses. Then I’m also going to be in the bronc riding. You doin bull or bronc?” I asked him.
