Katie listened to Rose through the holes that she and her family and friends had created for communication. She was most likely curled up on the floor. Katie knew that from when they were younger and shared a room together. The first time Ruby had gotten hurt, Rose had an emotional breakdown, and had curled up on the floor in complete and utter tears.
Rose sat in her room, the moment of the arrow through her sister kept replaying over and over in her head. The way the doctor tried to make her step away just infuriated her.
Jay knew that Rose would never respond to such forceful behavior. She needed a calm individual to comfort her, to teach her. Rose needed a mother. A person she could look up to. Ruby and Rose both needed one. Jay knew that she was to sharp to play such an important role in someone's life, but she would do her best to give Ruby and Rose what they needed.
Damien glanced up from his bed to across the room to where his little brother lays on his beanbag chair staring up at his mirror on the ceiling. Such a strange child was Seth as he grew up. There was always a mirror on the wall next to his bed, but as one day he fully acknowledged the thing, it's almost as if he had grown a demon in him. He went berserk, ordering everyone to get that mirror on the roof. One man told him it wasn't possible, and Seth almost bit him if it weren't for Damien who was there to stop him. They eventually found a way with plenty of double-sided tape. From then on, Seth never caused problems, but the one man always gives him the evil eye.
Tory had nothing to say after the incident today. He did not want to stick around to feel the wrath of Dr.Sawyer's behavior when he was angry. It was pointless to argue with him. Though he wish he had room closer to Katie, so he could comfort her and make her feel safer. He was always too far to really feel close to her, but there was always a special connection they shared. Nothing could come between them.
Katie had had enough. I.Q.'s were not something she enjoyed, and Ruby and Rose had never had one ever in their lives. No, she would not let them have to deal with these people. Katie was not going to let anything happen to them, and she had a plan. "Rose!" she whisper-yelled through the hole, "Rose!" She heard Rose become silent and heard her tiptoe to the wall. "What?" she whispered back.
"I'm gonna get us out of here."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that we are gonna break out!"
"You can't be serious!"
"But I am!" Katie said as forcefully as she could that time. She knew that there was no other way her loved ones were going be hurt or tested on ever again. "Listen, I have a plan," she whispered through the wall again, "Go tell Tory and I'll get Seth and Damien to tell Jay." Rose was silent for a moment, then, "Alright. I trust you." And she walked away.
They have to make it through the obstacle course, Ruby sitting nearby, her stomach wrapped heavily. Nobody gets hurt, and luckily the I.Q.'s were not going to happen till 8:00, after dinner. Until then they were permitted to hang out in the rec room, though the rec room is all white and there are no games or TV's, just an uncomfortable, white, springy sofa that only fits two people.
Ruby and Rose sat pressed against each other on the sofa while everyone else sat around them. They were silent for a few minutes, until they were sure there was nobody listening in on their conversation. Then Katie finally spoke, "I have a plan. And before any of you say anything I want to tell you what it is, ok?" Nobody objected.
"Good. So I figured there is probably a ton of guards and cameras only guarding the back doors and other entranceways, not the front door. Jay and Tory have been here longest, so they probably know where the front door is. If we could just make it out there without anybody catching us in the halls, we could make it out."
Her friends reactions were complete shock. Katie was always the worst at the quizzes, never the fastest in physical challenges, and never the smartest. She always freaked out when something got her dirty (so imagine her reaction to the obstacle course), or upset. So basically she was the girliest of the group. The fact that something so complex and completely brilliant came out of her mouth was, well, shocking.
"What?" she said, " 'The dull knife Katie' just said something smart? C'mon guys! Give me a little credit!" They were still in shock mode. Katie slowly built up anger inside her towards her friends, and was about to start yelling, when Seth spoke up. "Your plan is brilliant, Katie. I think it will work. We should give her a chance guys," he said looking at the others.
Slowly, everyone began complimenting her, and gaining excitement at their newfound way to freedom. Katie had done it, she had practically broke a hole a hole in the roof, as if it were as easy as that.
