No Escape

Ch- 3

"Will you be able to fly alright?" Jay fretted. She had been overly protective of the twins for quite some time. Now she was paranoid about Ruby's injury. "Yes, Jay, I'm fine!" Ruby was irritated with Jay's petty worrying. "She just cares," said Rose. "All she wants to do is help." Ruby glanced at her sister. She's right… Ruby thought.

Katie glanced around at her family. They were absolutely buzzing with excitement. Seth popped up next to her. "This is great!" Katie looked at him, took a few deep breaths, and grinned. "I know, right? Everybody is so excited…" He looked at her shaking paws. "Hey, you nervous?"

"A little…"

"Don't be! Your plan is brilliant!" He pressed against her. She was comforted with the warmth of his fur and the wrap of his wings around her shoulders. Seth was great. She felt she could just sit there forever…

"Katie! Seth! C'mon we're leaving!" Katie was snapped out of her thoughts. Time to go! She noticed Seth still had his wings around her. "Um…Seth?" He looked at her then his wings. "Oh…" he blushed "Sorry." He quickly pulled his wings away, embarrassed. Darn it… Katie thought. She stood and stepped towards the door.

"Ready?" she asked everyone. "Ready!" they said in a single chorus. Slowly she pushed out the door, and glanced up and down the halls. All clear. She looked back. "Jay, Tory, you lead please." They nodded and ran down the left side of the hall. Katie and the others followed at top speed. The made a sharp right down a short hallway. They rounded another corner and were confronted by guards.

Jay and Tory whipped around and pushed them back the opposite direction. "Hurry!" Jay screamed. The kept running and made a few more turns until they slammed into more guards. What was I thinking?... Katie thought. They made another break for it and right before they turned down another hall they heard a loud scream behind them. "Ruby!" Rose screamed. Dr. Swartz was behind them hold Ruby by the collar. Jay had a horrified look on her face, "You're hurting her! She can't breathe!!! Stop!" She leaped into the air and knocked Dr. Swartz down. The guards reached for her and held her back by her wings. Dr. Swartz stood up and pushed Ruby towards the guards.

"Take that to room 713," he said. Katie felt her legs turn to jelly at the sound of which room they were being sent to… That room is the IQ room. The guards standing by rounded Jay and the rest of the group into room 712. It's the observation room to the IQ room. The door made a click as it locked itself. Ruby appeared in 713 and was placed in the center of the room. The wrapped the collar securely around her and attached the hanging chains to the wall so she wouldn't try to wriggle free of the collar.

"Vits vimple," a heavy Russian accented voice said over intercom. "Anver vee question correctly, no shock. Anver vrong, shock." Ruby's eyes started to tear up. Her wings were trembling. "Poor Ruby," Damien whispered. "Your question is, what is the square root of pi?" Ruby started bawling. "I don't know!" Dr. Swartz reached for the dial that emits the shock. Rose put her paws up to the window. "Ruby! No!"
