Katie, Jay, Rose, Gizmo, Tory, Damien, and Seth had had long day in training. The little pup was advancing quickly, and it always made Katie smile to see him struggle into the air on his newborn wings. Rose still hadn’t talked, but Jay took care of her everyday. Damien and Seth had been together 24/7 as of late. Tory was just quiet, as usual. The group relaxed in the rec room after a hard day, listening to the loud snoring of Gizmo.

The door opened to reveal the very fit, smug faces everyone despised. They were a team of hybrids, but more elaborate. There was Fesi, the leader, an orange tabby combined with a shark. She was the most despicable. Racket was an otter, combined with a lion, and he was just as loud as one. He was Fesi’s right-hand-man. And then there was Chaos, a brutal cheetah, always looking for a fight. He was combined with a rabbit, allowing him to use strong hind legs to leap. Finally there was Twix, a normal dog, with the attention span of a goldfish. Guess it suits him though, because he is combined with goldfish allowing him to breathe underwater. He was treated as their doormat.

Their team was allowed outside, as they were bred as natural hunters, well of course, except for Twix. Katie glared at them, “What are you doing here?” Fesi grinned an ugly yellow smile. “Oh, just thought we’d stop by, and uh, check on the twins.” This infuriated Rose, and she leaped onto Fesi, snarling. “Rose!” Jay yelled, “Rose stop! She’s not worth it.” Rose backed away, still snarling. “Hmph,” said Fesi, “Serves you right.” Twix stared at Rose, wide-eyed. She’s so pretty…he thought. And look at those wings!

Fesi grumbled, “Well, guess we’ll go.” Twix didn’t realize what was happening until he heard the door slam behind him. He jumped, and skipped away from the door in shock, slamming into the plush white couch. The soft cover didn’t do much to protect his head though. He sat there letting the dizziness fade out of his eyes, and when he could clearly see, Rose was nose to nose with Twix.

She cocked her head slightly, sniffing his fur in the process. Twix sat there, still a bit dazed, wondering, Why won’t you say something? Rose flapped her wings once and turned away, padding across the room to Gizmo. She lay down next to him, wrapped her wings around him, and tucked her nose under her paw, while securing the other around Gizmos rib. Twix sat there awkwardly. Katie glanced at Tory, and he shrugged in reply. “Hey!” yelled Seth, startling everybody, even Gizmo, who started to whimper as he woke up from his nap.

Rose made a quiet “shhh” sound to calm him back to sleep. “Sorry,” said Seth again, standing up, “just why are we all sitting here staring at him? Don’t you think he should go back to his…teammates?” he said emphasizing the word teammate. Jay stood up, nodding, “You’re right Seth. He doesn’t need to be here with us,” she turned to Rose, “Rose, can you take him back to where he belongs? I’ll take care of Gizmo until you get back,” she added. Rose nodded and slowly peeled herself off of Gizmo.

She walked past Twix and out the door. Twix stood up quickly, nodding a goodbye to everyone, and ran to catch up with her. They walked in silence as they made their way down the long path through H.A. Twix’s part of the facility was on the other side of the entire building. There were paths specially made for the hybrids. They had no windows and roofs low enough to the point where Chaos’s, him and his tall stature, ears brushed the top. Twix walked a pace behind Rose, staring at her gorgeous wings, which she held spread above her head.
