Natsuko POV

I found a giant house. It's far into the woods, where no one would find it, but I heard a voice telling me to come here... maybe I'm going crazy. I've been in the woods for days now, drinking out of freshwater streams and eating, well, nothing, really. I could probably hold out for a few days without food.

...

Why am I lying to myself? I need food NOW.

I knock on the door and no one answers. This goes on for quite a while before I just swing open the door, and find the whole place trashed. ((A/N From when Marry had her 'breakdown'. >:3)) "H-hello?" I call out, and no one answers. I check the place up and down, for dead bodies and stuff... I don't know if this place was robbed or what, but only the bottom floor seems damaged. I work on cleaning up, which takes hours, books all over the floor, shelves knocked over. I really need some help, as I barely have the strength to this myself, but I manage. When I'm done, this sun is setting. I don't even bother finding a bed, I'm so exhausted that I collapse on a rug and start snoring before I hit the floor.

I drowsily wake up the next morning, with a horrible crick in my neck. Maybe I really should have slept in a bed. I walk to the kitchen area, and since I can't cook anything in fear of burning the whole house down, I find a cereal box and start eating out of that. It's full, luckily, so I won't have to worry about food for the next few days. I'm definitely not going into the city to get food, because I'm afraid I won't be able to find my way out here again.

I'm reading a book on the couch when suddenly, the door softly opens. A girl as pale as I walks in, sees me, and screams. I scream too, flinching. My book flies into the air and hits me hard on the head, and I bite my tongue. I grimace in pain as the girl rushes over to my side, her long wavy hair, white like mine, brushes the floor lightly behind her.

"Are you okay?" she asks, looking concerned.

I feel my tongue with the inside of my mouth. "It's fine, it's not bleeding."

A boy walks in after her, yellow hairclip brightening his night-like hair. "Mary, I heard you screaming, are you—who's this?"

"Ehh~ I don't know who she is, I found her on the couch reading. Who are you?"

I'm not so sure myself. "I'm Rena."

"Given name?"

"Natsuko, but don't call me that. Call me Suko."

"Okay, I'll call you Suko when we become close enough of friends, Rena-chan!"

Friends? "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was your house, I walked in here and it was trashed. I cleaned it up by myself. It was in such a terrible state that I thought no one lived here..."

"Why are you here?" asks the boy. "Don't you have parents or family to take care of you?"

I look down at my feet and shake my head. "I ran away, sort of..."

"Oh! Well, in that case, you can stay with us and our friends! Is that okay with you?" the boy says.

"I'll take you up on that offer. Thank you!" I say, even though my mind is working. 'Friend', I hear that word again. What does that mean?

As we're walking back, the boy says, "Oh, we forgot to introduce ourselves! I'm Seto!"

"I'm Kozakura Mary, nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet you too, Seto-san and Kozakura-san." I say, smiling at them. The sun beats down on me. It sure is hot...

"-San is not necessary," says the boy, and the girl says, "You can call me Mary!"
