A Special Cinderella Tale

Once upon a time
On a magical summers eve
A curly, red haired maiden
Prepared herself to leave

With a sigh of relief
The work week is done
The time has arrived
For her to have fun

She's dreamt of this night
Since she was just young
Her heart is rejoicing
She might meet the One

She pampers and showers
Primps makeup and hair
Takes just a few hours
Not one thing in err

To the room next to hers
She heads at a run
Where the flitter and scitter
Work to get the dress done

She stands there in awe
As she opens the door
The mice and the birds
Made a gown to adore

Leaving quickly to search
The door left ajar
The invite to find
Charlie waiting not far

Grabbing the invite
She heads to the door
Only to find
Her dress on the floor

"Charlie she cries"
In utter dismay
As she looks at the dress
"You've ruined the day"

Her precious pup Charlie
In all of his joy
Had torn it to shreds
As he does his stuff' toy

What was she to do
About the grand ball
She could not attend
With no dress at all

She dropped to her knees
Tears flowing so free
Sobbing she cried,
"Lord please help me

Her heart was so broken
As she knelt there and prayed
And suddenly shone around her
The brightness of day

Startled she looks
At a marvellous sight
An angel before her
Cloaked in brilliant white

"God wants you to know
To this ball you must go
For he has plans for you
That you do not yet know"

"But sir I can't go
With the dress all in tatters"
He smiled and replied
"God's plan's all that matters."

"Today you must treasure
What God's going to do
You must never forget
How much he loves you"

He turns to the mice
And the birds in the room
"Meet us outside
And then we'll resume"

Out in the garden
With maiden and friends
He gathers a pumpkin
Whose top slightly bends

Placing the pumpkin
Down on the ground
It develops wheels
And becomes more round

The mice become horses
The birds, her footmen
And her dear, old Charlie
Becomes her coachman

Once pumpkin now carriage
Gleaming like gold
In all of its splendour
T'was a sight to behold

He turns to the maiden
"Your carriage awaits"
"But my dress isn't ready"
She goes on to state

A grin slowly grows
O'er his shining face
Her outfit transforms
Into satin and lace

The base, a petticoat
A cascade of layers
Surely this stunning gown
Would draw many stares

"This all is temporary
Please don't forget
Be back by midnight
Or there'll be regret"

Mounting the carriage
They hurry to the ball
Not stopping, tarrying,
Nor detouring at all

Lights fill the sky with
A grandiose display
The front, a garden
Is quite an array

The entrance was posh
The decor exquisite
A long ruby carpet
Runs from the chariot

The ballroom was full
Hundreds dancing away
Each pair absorbed
As they spin and they sway

Standing to the side
She realizes a truth
She had no partner
T'was indeed a sad sooth

Eating chocolate
She quietly slips out
Escaping the noise
To peacefully walk 'bout

Behind an old door
Hides a daisy garden
Their snow white petals
Reach out, as they hearken

Their long slender stems
Reach out towards the sky
Shielding the stone path
From the ancient moon's eye

Praying thanks to God,
She walks along the path
Passed benches, fountains
And even an old bird bath

Then a lake appears.
A silhouette alone
Stands watching the night
As the darkness is grown

Slowly, he turns 'round
His eyes searching her blues
"Who are you" he asks
Surveying for some clues

"You're necklace like stars
Fallen down from the sky.
The earrings the same
As they shine by your eyes."

Before he can say
Another single word
The clock tolls midnight
Further talk was deterred

Hastily she runs
To the carriage she bolts
One foot now shoeless
As the carriage quickly jolts

Into the night they ride
Vanishing quickly
Now out of his sight
He sees things more clearly

Days go by slowly
And nights seem to prolong
Wrapped in her scarf
For her prince she did long

Weeks come and weeks go
Everyday taking flight
Earnestly searching
Her Prince Charming alights

With a knock or two
She runs up to the door
He puts on her shoe
Then she's swept off the floor

The wheels whirling fast
The royal carriage withdraws
Both beaming with joy
Soon to meet the in-laws

The day does arrive
The land fills with chimes
The prince crowns his bride
'Twas a tale for all time

His hair like the sand
His eyes like the forest
His stature; treelike
His smile; the dearest

She had found true love
Indeed that is for sure
God had picked the one
That is perfect for her.
