"Allegra?" My mother asked, creaking open the bedroom door. My head snapped up, as I placed the book to the side. "Let me fix your hair," She said, picking up a brush from the vanity. I hopped off the bed and walked over to her, standing in front of the mirror. Ever since I was little, I had always despised having my hair brushed by someone else. Oh, the pain of having your hair tugged at. I winced as she yanked the brush through my slightly damp hair, smoothing it out. This process took quite a bit, until she finally managed to exterminate all the knots.

"There. Finished," She finally said, placing the brush back on the vanity. I looked up into the mirror, smiling sightly. The light brown waves that fell a couple inches below my shoulder framed my face quite well. I noticed she had also parted my hair on the left, which looked...different. I stood up, pushing in the chair, before pulling my absolutely wonderful mother into a bear hug. "I'm gonna miss you,"I mumbled, as she gently placed her arms around me. "I'll miss you too, sweetie. I'm still here until after the wedding, you know." "I know, but I'll still miss you."

A sudden knock on the door interrupted us, as I released her, walking back into the main chamber. I opened the door, revealing a woman. "Oh, hello! I just wanted to inform you that dinner will be served shortly, so make your way down to the dining room when you're ready," She said, before bouncing off down the hallway. I shut the door, panicking slightly. The moment I had been dreading ever since I read the letter. Meeting my husband-to-be. I groaned, and walked back into my bedroom, sitting down on the bed. Just as I sat down, my mother walked back in, hiding her hands behind her back.

"What's in your hands?" I asked, leaning over to see. "Close your eyes," She instructed, still hiding her hands behind her back. I rolled my eyes, but stood up, shutting my eyes. She placed, what I deduced were earrings, in my ears, followed by a necklace. I opened my eyes slightly, as something was suddenly placed on the top of my head. I turned to the mirror, gaping slightly. Pearl earrings, a matching necklace, and a small, silver tiara scattered with small glinting blue gems. A small gasp escaped my mouth, as my mother smiled in the background.

"It's-It's beautiful, but is this necessary?" I asked, turning around. "Yes," She replied instantly, walking to the door.

"We should go. Ready?"

"Ready."

I exhaled, following closely behind, and closed the door behind me. It didn't take long until we managed to find the dining room, which wasn't too far from our room. My hands suddenly felt sweaty, as the blood drained from my face. I shakily followed behind, my eyes darting around nervously. We stopped in front of the wide, stone doors, as chatter from the inside soon ceased as my mother slowly pushed open the door.

Everyone's head turned in our direction, staring blankly at the two of us. "Ah, hello. You've arrived just in time. Please, sit down." The man sitting at the head of the table said, who I suspected was Thorin himself. I hesitated slightly, then followed her, sitting down in the chair next to her. "These are my nephews. The youngest, Kili, and the eldest, Fili." I turned my head in the direction Thorin's hand pointed. Two dwarves, which I hadn't noticed earlier, looked back at me. Well, the blonde one, already seemed to be staring. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks, and gave them a small smile before turning away. Well I wasn't expecting that at all. He's actually...well...damn. He's handsome. I thought, trying to keep a straight face. "I hope your journey went well. Did you run into any trouble?" Thorin asked my father, as conversations started up again.

"We did run into a huge orc pack when we reached the clearing of the forest near Dale. There had to be at least thirty of them."

"Was anyone hurt?"

"Allegra was unfortunately cut by a sword, but she kept fighting, the little lion heart."

I smiled to myself, blushing slightly. It always felt nice to be complemented for my bravery. "I can see." He said, looking down at my arm. "You have experience with weapons?" He asked, quirking an eyebrow. "Archery is my specialty, though I am quite handy with daggers," I responded, looking up from my soup. Out of the corner of my eye I could have sworn Fili looked impressed. I smirked, turning my attention back to my dinner. Everyone eventually broke off into their own conversations, leaving me alone, lost in thought. I glanced over to my mother, who was currently in a deep discussion with Dís, brother of Thorin, and mother of Fili and Kili.

"This whole thing is unfair for them!"

"Poor Allegra didn't talk for days!"

"They're too young for this. But once Thorin and Dain make up their minds, there's no changing them."

"You've got that right. Hopefully they'll get along."

"It'd be horrible if they don't. I'm sure they will though."

"Have you seen the way Fili keeps looking at her? Oh, they'll get along alright."

They giggled, as I looked back at Fili, who in fact was looking in my direction. I felt my cheeks begin to redden, resisting the urge to put my face in my hands. This is so awkward! This is just....ugh.

"Oh, look at the two of them. Reminds me of when I was young."

"Ah, yes. The good ol' days."

"Very funny."

The cool evening wind tousled my hair slightly, as I wrapped my arms around my knees. Dinner had ended about an hour ago, and I was currently sitting on the balcony. Another gust of wind caused me to shiver, as I stood up without hesitation, before closing the door, and crawled into bed. The moon supplied enough light to navigate through the room, as I rolled over and closed my eyes, thinking about tonight's events. Did my mother really think that we would get along? I sure hope she's right about that, 'cause if she isn't, this is going to be an awkward situation. And with that final thought, I drifted into a dreamless slumber.
