I woke up the next morning to the sound of knocking. Groaning, I rolled over, trying to ignore the badgering knocks, until the door eventually creaked open. Squinting, I looked over to the doorway, to see my apparently impatient mother. "It's almost noon! Get up already!" She complained, throwing the comforter off of me. Sighing, I pushed myself out of the bed, stumbling over to the dresser, where my mother was pulling something out.
"Oh no no no. Not a dress. I was going to visit Sherlock today," I informed her, crossing my arms. She just rolled her eyes, and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. I quickly pulled on a pair of white breeches, a long-sleeved light pink top, and finally another pair of brown leather boots that weren't stained with orc blood. I brushed my hair back into a quick ponytail, honestly not even trying. I glanced in the mirror quickly, before slipping into the hallway, almost running into a woman walking by.
"Oh! Sorry! Um, you wouldn't happen to know where the stables are, would you?" I asked, bouncing on the balls of my feet. Her mouth broke into a smile, as she nodded, and gestured me to follow her. As we made our way through the hallways, I shyly followed behind, observing every face we passed. No one seemed to take much notice of anyone, just minding their own business, going on with their daily activities. She suddenly stopped in front of yet another huge door, which led outside, as I had noticed when she pushed it open. "It's just to the left. Just follow the smell of hay and horse." She said, grinning. "Thank you so much," I replied, smiling back. "Anytime," She called, turning down yet another hallway, disappearing from sight. I sighed, stepping into the blinding sunlight. Squinting slightly, I poked my head down a corner, and there I saw rows and rows of stalls. I paced down the aisles, until a familiar face poked out from one of the many stalls.
"Hey baby," I whispered, opening the door. Sherlock huffed impatiently, stamping his hoof on the hay covered ground. I rolled my eyes, but pulled out an apple I had snagged earlier. He sunk his teeth into the juicy fruit, looking quite satisfied. I chuckled to myself, petting his fuzzy nose. He finished the apple in under two minutes, which I didn't find surprising. He was always hungry, and when he ate, he ate as if there was no tomorrow. I tossed the core aside, and swiftly mounted him. We just sat there, me laying on him bareback, not making any noise.
"So what do you think of Allegra?" An unfamiliar voice said, which almost caused me to fall off the stallion's back. I slid off of him, trying to be as quite as possible. I tiptoed over to the wall, and peered through a small hole in the wall. Out of all the people in this whole kingdom, the two princes of Erebor just happened to be there. I mentally groaned, but continued eavesdropping on their conversation like the sneaky person I was. I was also quite curious to hear his response, looking back and forth between them.
"I don't know...I barely know her," Fili responded, hesitating.
"You like her don't you," Kili said, grinning mischievously.
"Sorry?"
"You think she's pretty!"
At this point Fili's cheeks were a bright pink, matching mine perfectly. Did he really think I was pretty? He must've hit his head or something... I thought to myself, smirking.
"Shut up Kili," He muttered, looking away.
"You do think she's pretty! It's quite obvious, the way you've been looking at her last night."
"Alright! Fine! Now will you stop annoying me?"
"Mmm, no."
Fili just rolled his eyes, and walked out of the stall. I ducked down, hiding behind Sherlock, who looked quite confused. Of course he just had to poke his head out of the stall, catching Fili's attention. Okay, stay cool. Act natural. Pretend you weren't just eavesdropping on him. Sherlock huffed, looking curiously at him. I quickly scrambled to my feet, brushing off the dirt and hay, as Fili walked over to the stall, stroking Sherlock's nose lightly. Sherlock, being the greedy pony he was, nudged Fili's pockets. He took the hint, and pulled a carrot out of his pocket, leading to Sherlock munching happily on it.
"Well that gained his trust," I said, appearing from the shadows of the stall. Fili's eye's widened, almost causing him to drop the carrot.
"You didn't hear what we were..." He trailed off, looking over to Kili, who followed Kili out of the stall.
"Um, I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, so I'll go with no," I replied, as he relaxed. Actually, I heard every word. I thought, trying not to smirk. "C'mon Fee, lunch time," Kili said, slapping a hand on the back of his brother's back after appearing out of the stall. "You coming?" Fili asked, looking back in my direction. "In a bit. I'm gonna stay for a bit longer," I responded. Fili waved in response, as I smiled and waved in return. The second he rounded the corner, I slumped against the wall, running a hand over my face. Why must I be so socially awkward. I can barely carry on a conversation! I thought slamming my fist onto the hay covered ground.
Sherlock nudged my shoulder with face in an impatient way. "All right all right, you've had enough of me. I'm leaving." I said, grinning at the horse. I pulled myself up, and kissed Sherlock goodbye before heading to the dining room for lunch.
