Darlene opened her eyes lazily. The light from the window forced her eyes shut with a squint. Although she couldn't see, she listened to the sounds of her room. Her heart started pounding. Terrified by the silence, Darlene rose up and looked around in panic.

As she sat on her hands, she noticed a cold, sticky substance running over her fingers. She looked at her hands. It was blood. She screamed and looked to her left to discover a lifeless Bridgette lying next to her with glassy eyes and pale, white, unpigmented skin. She vigorously shook Bridgette, whilst tears ran down her face.

"BRIDGETTE! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! OH PLEASE GOD WAKE UP!"

Once Darlene noticed Bridgette wasn't getting up, she laid down on her side and weeped in grief. She wailed when she realized, Bridgette was gone forever.

Her throat was slit from ear to ear and her shirt was lifted about three inches on her right hip. She saw a small incision so she raised her shirt more to reveal knife marks. She made words from them. They said,"RUN." She raised the shirt on her other side to reveal a bear face. Darlene's heart jumped. It was strikingly similar to the one she drew on the paper in school the day before. Darlene burst into tears and hugged Bridgett's lifeless body.

She laid there for a long time. She got up to wake Bonnie. She threw her door open and ran down the hall to her second bedroom. That is where Bonnie slept. She collapsed on the bed, crying.

"What is it!" Bonnie exclaimed.
"It's.. it's Bridgette" Darlene sobbed, "she's dead. She weeped again.
"OH MY GOD" Bonnie cried. She jumped up and ran to Bridgette's room.

As soon as Bonnie entered the room, her face fell. Her face scrunched up like a pug and she cried.

They ran to get Darlene's mom and show her the lifeless mess that made up their best friend. Darlene showed them the knife markings and how it looked like the drawing she drew at school before they found the bear.

Darlene suddenly stopped talking. Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened like saucers.
"Come on guys we have to go!"
"Go where?" The other two said in unison
"We have to find that bear!" Darlene cried.
"Come on!!"

Darlene ran down the hall and grabbed a coat and shoes. She quickly laced her shoes and jumped up. Darlene, Bonnie, and mom walked out into the nippy fall air and looked around, their breath making heavy, frozen clouds in the hair. They split up to search the yard for he bear. One going towards the field, one going to the wood line, and Darlene going to the treehouse.

Darlene walked through the crunchy, frost paven leaves and walked up to a tree. Upon circumnavigating the tree, she saw a gut wrenching and frightening sight. She screamed and ran to collect the others, her nose freezing in the wind as she went.
