Samuel was quick to place a large plate filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast on the counter in front of me. My mouth started to water and my stomach ached eagerly— I guess I didn't realize how hungry I was."Thank you," I replied with a dorky smile as I lifted a piece of toast to my lips. I crunched into the buttery goodness that was his cooking— needless to say, Samuel could make something as simple as buttered toast a delicacy.
"Don't mention it."
Crumbs messily collected on the outskirts of my mouth. After I finished eating all that I could, my eyes scanned the room for a napkin. With no luck, I frowned.
"What's wrong?" Elijah asked quietly, noticing my shift in expression. "Do you need anything?"
"Yeah, a napkin, please," I nervously mumbled.
Elijah then gingerly lifted my head, using his fingers to prop my chin. I couldn't help but feel my cheeks begin to warm— if I had a tally for how many times he's made me blush, there would at least be ten marks already.
His eyes, now a deep golden color, stared down into mine. A light smirk spread across his lips before he leaned down to gently kiss the crumbs off my face.
What the heck? I've known him for roughly three days and yet here we were, being incredibly intimate. I could practically feel steam leaving my nose and ears— cartoon style.
"There, all clean," he whispered in a velvety tone.
My widened eyes didn't dare leave his; I cautiously lifted a hand to grace the corner of my mouth. Again, I could feel remanences of his warmth upon my skin.
Astonished, Samuel cleared his throat.
I gulped; for a split second I had forgotten that he was there— awkward. I quickly shifted an apologetic glance over to the blonde, but before I could verbally apologize for the awkwardness, Elijah's cellular went off.
"One moment," Elijah murmured before clicking the green 'answer' button on the phone. "Speak," he grunted into the device.
I watched as his face grew cold; whoever was on the other side must have told him some sour news. Samuel, too, had a darkened expression plastered upon his face.
"Yes, I'll deal with it immediately," Elijah gravely sighed and shoved the iPhone back into his pocket. He then directed his attention to his cousin. "Assuming you heard everything, there is no need for an explanation. Samuel, can you watch over Adeline for an hour or so?"
"Of course, Alpha," Samuel complied.
My eyes wavered between the two men— were they not going to tell me what was happening?
Elijah placed a quick kiss on my cheek— much to my surprise— and smugly smiled. "I'll be back soon, little doe, don't miss me too much." He nodded at Samuel before disappearing into the foyer.
A soft snicker escaped Sam's lips, breaking the silence. I returned my gaze to meet his and furrowed my eyebrows in a confused fashion. "What?" I asked, curiously.
"Its nothing, really. I've never seen Alpha so...gentle around a human before," the blonde spoke as if he was lost in thought.
