At midnight, she was finally home. I came home from my friends house to see Aunt Kara and Uncle Dec waiting, they had brought a frozen pizza with them which we ate, it was so good. Anyways Kaylee was exhausted she had thrown up while she was at the hospital and had to get an IV put in and have a couple blood tests. She barely said hi to me when I came into the house. She sat with dad and slept all night, I was put to bed while she stayed out with dad that night.
The next day My parents where busy scheduling Drs appointments for tests for my sick sister. Kaylee wasn't happy that she had to take tests on her birthday, but as soon as the tests where done we where going to head to Missoula so Kaylee could have a family birthday.
At the time, Kaylee went to public school at a kindergarden near our house so she went to school, while I stayed at home to get my work done as a homeschooler. She came back by noon and we went to the hospital where she went through her first horrid test, the EEG. Now in this test they hook a bunch of wires to your head, and flash bright strobe lights in your hospital room. To see if your brain reacts, if it does you can be diagnosed with epilepsy, or a brain the causes seizures. Well her brain reacted...kind of causing the Doctors to look at seizures, she also had to have an EKG that day, which is more wires attached to your chest to monitor your heart. "Daddy? I'm bored." I pouted as only an eight year old would, "Well let's go to the cafeteria to see if there is anything good to get." So with that we walked down stairs. "Oo! They have smoothies!" I squealed with glee. Dad payed for them and we walked back up to Kaylee's room. Her test was done and she was tired, it would be a long ride to Missoula. We finally got there at 5:00pm and went to their mc Donald's (which the play area is huge!) "But mom! I wanna go play too!" You could here Kaylees disappointed whine, at the table, "No I'm sorry honey but we can't risk you passing out in there." Was my moms stern but caring answer, what a birthday. Kaylee opened her birthday presents an hour later. "Oh! Yay! I got a Cinderella Barbie!" The six year old cheered happily, "And a hot wheels too!" She clapped. She got many presents that day, everyone was just happy she was alive, because her heart actually had stopped two days earlier.
I can't remember how long this trip to Missoula lasted, I think only two days before we where home again back on routine and having more tests.
"One year." We heard the doctor say, "If she doesn't have another episode in one year she will never have one again." We breathed a sigh of relief...what? It was hope at least.
The year came, and she hasn't had one and it somehow landed on dads birthday so we celebrated both events! It was so fun Kaylee got a balloon that we played with obsessively in our room.
That summer, in August I was now 9 and Kaylee now 7. We went up camping and my mom told us we had to take a nap, I was not happy! To have to take a nap while we where up at the lake, "Alex will you scoot over?" My mom asked as she got into bed, "Ugh fine." I answer and I scooted over as far as I possibly could. *Rip!* was the last thing I heard until I saw blackness. Opening my eyes I saw I was laying on tarp, "Their camper has a basement?" Was my first thought before the pain hit me. "Ow!!!!" I screamed as loud as I could, it came out not much louder than a whimper. My air was gone and I could not breathe, my stomach hurt so I couldn't speak I looked up and realized I had fallen out of the window, hit the metal tongue of the tailer on my stomach and fell to the ground, I cried for 10 minutes unable to get up and trying to get someone to come back and help me. Finally my mom looked out the window I had fallen through and ran out to get me, I was carried into the trailer and the next day I drove to town to urgent care.
"Well you're lucky, there is very little internal damage in your stomach, you hit a metal tongue?" Asked the doctor I nodded and he gave me pain medication for the next few days.
We went back to my moms sisters house and fell asleep for the night.
The next morning, I woke up and walked out of the room in slight pain and sat at the table, "Wanna watch Cinderella?" I hear a deep voice ask me and my sister, "Sure." I answered unsure what to say, this uncle always scared me he was tall and had a deep voice, "Ok." He smiled and put it in watching and laughing with us.
Soon my mom and my aunt walked it drenching wet (it looked like they jumped in a pool) "We got the raspberries!" They said happily my uncle took one look at them and laughed the hardest I have ever seen him laugh in my life, what a rainstorm! Within an hour they where dry and we drove back to the camp with some new happy memories and a few painful ones. I saw my first bear on the way back, lumbering through the woods slowly as though he had no where to go.
We got back, and explained to everyone I was ok and the next two weeks where filled with fun!
